Job Details

The De Beauvoir Deli is widely regarded as one of London’s top delicatessens. Alongside fine food retail, we incorporate quick-service takeaway, a table-service café and catering delivery, in the heart of a dynamic, community-minded neighbourhood. A London Living Wage employer, we have around 40 staff across the shop, café, kitchens and office and are looking for a new General Manager to lead the front of house team through our next phase as we turn 15 years old. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for the right candidate to bring their passion and experience from a similar role to maintain and build on our success to date.

Key responsibilities of the role include


- The day-to-day management of operations

- Working with the owner to develop and execute growth strategies

- Ensuring statutory and legislative compliance throughout the business

Commercial strategy and development:

- Improvements or updates to existing operations

- Exploration of new revenue streams and opportunities

Financial accountability:

- Performance analysis

- Driving profitability and sustainability

- Effective stock planning

Team Management

- Hosting regular management meetings

- Reviewing and supporting individual management performance

- Effective communication of business strategy and targets

- Proactive recruitment and training of teams

- Effective scheduling and staff planning


Required Attributes

- Commercially astute and financially literate

- Conscientious with excellent attention to detail

- Well organised and clear thinking with an ability to prioritise and manage workload

- Good problem solver, particularly with arising facilities issues

- Ability to remain calm and keep team focused under pressure

- Good at multi-tasking

- Strong leader with excellent communication skills

- Empathetic and considerate towards customers and team

- Good understanding of current market trends

- Broad knowledge of international foods, (especially cheese & deli products) and wines

- Awareness of London independent retail sector and key players

- Relaxed and friendly demeanour with a positive outlook


Professional Experience

Minimum 2 years GM experience in a similar quality/size of operation, with at least 5 years overall senior level experience in hospitality or fine food retail

Proven experience of business development through personal initiative

Track record of success within multi-faceted business environment

Working knowledge of hospitality service and legislation

Experience of recruiting and training at all levels

The kitchen is now responsible for half of our output and includes packaged items for retail alongside all of our ready-to-eat produce.
