JOB SPECIFICATION: CLETWR BUSINESS MANAGER
INTRODUCTION
Cletwr is an awarding winning community owned enterprise and venue, providing café and convenience store services to the local community and passing trade at a important junction on the A487 in West Wales. After local consultation, the community came together in 2012 and took the opportunity to set up a community owned shop and café. The enterprise is looking to recruit a Business Manager to take the shop and café into its second decade, having served the community successfully over the challenges of the past ten years.
The business manager will be responsible for and supported by an administrator and department managers. Training will be provided to the successful candidate.

Suppliers, members of the local community, users of theshop and café, staff, volunteers, budgeting
AIMS
- To contribute to the company a trading surplus from the shop and cafe according to budget and in accordance with the Company’s trading strategy
- To manage the business budget
- To ensure a high level of customer service and staff/volunteer competence across the business
- To ensure that the shop and café are well-stocked, clean, safe, and well-presented
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- You will be outgoing and enthusiastic, with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to providing a first-class service to the community.
- Good level of numeracy, literacy and IT skills are essential.
- Retail or hospitality and financial experience is essential.
- Welsh language skills, or the willingness to learn, would be advantageous.
- Proven ability of effective team management within a multi service setting is essential.
KEY TASKS
Staff
- To be responsible for the recruitment and retention of a team of both salaried and volunteer staff, and be responsible for their on-going training and motivation.
- To oversee the rota-ing of sufficient resource across the business.
- Ensure all legal requirements associated with staffing and volunteers are adhered to.
- Hold regular meetings, individually and as a team, with all staff.
- Ensure an annual review process is in place for all staff.
Stock
- Oversee stock processes -ordering, delivering, replenishing and accurate pricing.
- Be responsible for stock being displayed and presented in an innovative way so as to maximise sales potential and minimise loss/damage.
- Oversee the turnaround of stock to accommodate use by and sell by dates.
- Be responsible for the safe disposal of any unsold items.
- Support the departmental managers in researching new suppliers and liaison with existing suppliers.
Customer Services
- Ensure the premises are kept clean and tidy at all times.
- Ensure staff and volunteers offer all possible practical assistance to customers.
- Encourage a cheerful and welcoming atmosphere in the shop and café at all times.
- Ensure that all signage and communication activity is bilingual and that the Welsh language is fostered.
Administration
- Ensure that all financial records are properly kept.
- Oversee the handling of cash receipts and banking.
- Ensure suppliers, utilities and other services are contracted, paid and monitored.
Security, Health and Safety:
- Ensure that safe working practices are adhered to at all times on the premises (Health & Safety, Environmental Health for example).
- Ensure all procedures are updated to ensure compliance across the business.
- Ensure the business maintains a First Aid book and an Accident book.
- Ensure security for the storage and transportation of money on and off premises.
- Ensure premises are secure at all times.
General
- Foster and maintain good relationships with other local traders.
- Ensure that the reputation and image of the business is nurtured.
