THE COMPANY

Occasionally job opportunities come up that represent a chance to join a business at a special and rare moment in time — our client offers such a chance to ‘get on the train’ in 2022 as they enter the next phase of their exciting and considerable investment growth story.

Here’s the story, so far…

  • Well invested and successful e500m European food group
  • 2016: UK sales @£16m own-label single product category in chilled food
  • 2019: UK sales @£40m own-label and brand in four chilled food categories
  • 2020: Opening of a new UK £20m build high capacity and innovative factory including a fabulous office facility
  • 2021: Very recent UK acquisition of a core category brand leader with sales of £40m
  • Highly collaborative, friendly culture with an entrepreneurial twist!

As expected, 2022 is proving to be the perfect time for a highly talented Procurement Manager to join the growing chilled food manufacturing team across this brand and own-label business’.

THE ROLE

This is a pivotal and highly influential role within this thriving business, where you will take full management responsibility for a c£20m purchase ledger including all food ingredient and packaging components. Working closely with your suppliers you will build effective and trusted relationships sourcing both ongoing product ingredients, as well as more complex strategic supply contractual negotiations with larger volume key ingredients suppliers, procured both in the UK and internationally.

As a key part of the wider UK-based manufacturing team, you will work cross functionally, delivering the highest levels of communications around the supply of goods to help ensure ongoing product manufacturing efficiencies are maximised. Additionally, you will liaise with your procurement colleagues across the wider European food manufacturing group to maximise product sourcing opportunities here in the UK.

The role will also include direct management and support of a Materials Coordinator.

ABOUT YOU

Having developed your career in FMCG food or drink manufacturing businesses, you have shaped your experience to include ingredient buying/procurement, developing a track record of commercial effectiveness that delivered reductions in manufacturing costs and increased finished product profitability. Furthermore, you can demonstrate excellent supplier relationships and a network of key contacts across food/drink ingredient and packaging suppliers.

You have a forward-thinking ‘bigger picture’ mindset within the world of product sourcing and the ability to shape procurement strategies aligned to the company’s future sales growth plans.

Negotiation is second nature to you, as is your ability to work cross functionally with a highly personable and influential style that’s capable of ‘holding the floor’ up to board level. Most importantly, you are both highly commercial and determined to succeed, yet love to work in a culture that is also very team orientated and has a wicked, fun sense of humour!

So, if you’re looking to join a well-invested, growing business in a highly important central-to-all-things role, please apply by quoting reference MS/2297 enclosing your CV and full benefits package details to mark@smithcarey.co.uk, or call Mark Smith for an initial confidential discussion on 07747 847214.

Closing date for applications: 8th June 2022
