Due to an internal promotion, there is a rare opportunity to join a leading toy company with a strong brand heritage. Playmobil seeks an experienced and self-motivated Territory Manager to sell its highly successful top 10 toy brand reporting into the Field Sales Manager. This will be through our existing customer base in the South and South West of England, but also seeking new customers and developing new channels to market.

The territory stretches from Cornwall to Berkshire and up to West Glamorgan to Buckinghamshire.

We are looking for a professional who can quickly absorb and retain product knowledge. The successful candidate will receive on-the-job training for two weeks, and then take over management of their area. On average, 5 customer visits per day, so the ability to plan a journey plan is necessary.

Main responsibilities are:

  • Agree with the Field Sales Manager the individual customer and territory objectives, targets and programmes, breaking down the larger territory target by product and customer, for each measured time period or journey cycle
  • Agrees additional business development objectives for the territory or individual customers to encourage growth beyond the normal levels expected
  • Develops a professional rapport and business relationship with all buyers, store managers and influential contacts
  • Develops their professional selling skills, not just relying on relationship selling
  • Maintains planned call coverage
  • Develops programme of prospecting/pioneer calling to identify new worthwhile customers on the assigned territory
  • Identifies new product and new prospect opportunities
  • Maintains full and accurate customer call records
  • Avoids out-of-stock situations, checking stock in all stores, and sells in products to satisfy demand and sell through
  • Achieves maximum levels of sales and distribution in current and potential stores
  • Achieves optimum levels of product display in all appropriate outlets
  • Motivates and trains customer staff to promote Playmobil against competition, giving them guidance in any necessary product knowledge, and helping them understand and communicate the product features and benefits
  • Provides market intelligence feedback on competitor activity

Qualifications and experience required

  • 3-4+ years’ experience in a field based sales role
  • 3+ years’ experience in in the toy industry is preferred but not essential

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in a multi-channel retail sales environment
  • Highly organised, with proven journey, sales and marketing planning experience
  • New business focused and growth orientated
  • Effective communication skills via face to face, telephone and email
  • Ability to analyse sales and territory
  • Ability to produce sales reports
  • Able to build relationships with buyers and internal staff
  • Computer literate with skills in Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Good negotiator
  • A good team player
  • Work ethic to deliver the required discretionary effort to surpass primary responsibilities of the role
  • Full clean driving license
  • On occasions, able to work outside of defined territory
