Business Development and Marketing Manager – Leading Solicitors Practice.
Our client is a leading firm of solicitors with clients in both the Corporate sector, as well as high net worth private clients. The firm provide legal advice across the full spectrum but with key specialisms in cross border / International law. The firm has been established over 200 years and has nearly 300 partners and around 1,500 staff throughout their branch network, including offices in America and Europe.
We have been briefed to identify and recruit an accomplished sales and commercial person with robust business acumen, and an impressive business development record ideally gained within a professional services firm. Experience of designing pitches and presenting to SMEs and Corporates on a face to face basis ( pre-Covid ) is essential, and we have been briefed to identify and retain an individual who is both polished and yet proactive. An individual who is not frightened of telephone canvassing to identify opportunities, and to make appointments with both end users as well as influencers / introducers.
The successful candidate will very much not operate in isolation, and a large part of your role will be to work with the heads of department and their fee earners, and to provide them with the skills and tools to optimise the fee income from their existing client base, and also to generate additional fees by alerting the solicitors how to spot and convert opportunities for additional sales. We need somebody who is a truly inspirational and who can coach and mentor the solicitors to also become sales people. It is essential you are able to influence and to motivate those senior to you, as much as those at peer level. It will be your brief to turn a rather traditional and long established legal firm into a mean lean sales machine to ensure its continued success and expansion well into the 21st century.
As well as creating the sales machine from scratch, you will also be required to set a business wide commercial strategy, including clearly identifiable targets and metrics required to achieve them. You will be personally accountable for both the plan and its achievement, and there will be absolutely no corners to hide in. This is an exciting challenge but definitely not one for the faint hearted !
You will also have dotted line responsibility for the firm’s marketing manager who in turn bears responsibility for promoting the brand across all marketing channels, including various websites, online and print advertising, SEO, social media, PR, radio, webinars and events, digital newsletters, cross referrals amongst teams and building the database. An understanding therefore of the main principles of marketing would be something of an advantage, although not essential as the Marketing manager is self-sufficient in the main.
Reporting to the managing partners, the successful candidate will co-ordinate the day-to-day running of all business development activities and be responsible for building a pipeline and converting prospective clients and prospects by following up on attendees to events, and by pitching and tendering for new business.
In return for your dedication and efforts, our client is offering a competitive salary (between £46,251 -£70,312 basic depending on experience ), plus benefits package to the successful candidate.
This is predominantly a home based role and you should ideally be based anywhere south of the M62 corridor ( down to the south coast ). There will be considerable travelling between branch offices as well as for customer visits.
