Account Director / Channel Controller (Food FMCG)

Location: St Albans, Head Office or Homebased (Will need to be roughly Midlands / South East location due to customer base) – in normal working circumstances and when it is safe to do so - 2 days based from our Head Office, St Albans, Hertfordshire

Salary: Competitive Salary plus benefits to include, Car Allowance, 25 days holiday (plus an option to buy up to an extra 5 days holiday a year), company pension, self & family private healthcare, company bonus scheme, free running, yoga and boot camp clubs from Head Office.

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Burton’s Biscuits are owned by a Private Equity Owned business Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP or Teachers for short) and form part of their c.$200 B Net Assets portfolio. Working in partnership with Teachers, has allowed Burtons Biscuits to become a forward thinking and progressive business.

In order to ensure we can continue to make fantastic biscuits, and to help us on this amazing journey, we are proud to announce that in 2019 we completed the acquisition of a premium sweet and savoury biscuit manufacturer Thomas Fudge’s, also in 2019 we acquired Scottish bakers Paterson Arran. This increases our baking capabilities across a number of new sweet and savoury categories.

As a result, we now have 6 bakery sites across the UK, located in Blackpool, Livingston, Edinburgh, Dorset, Isle of Arran and Llantarnam, with our head office in St Albans. In total we employ circa 2,000 people around across our locations.

As well as our amazing brands, Private Label is a large part of our business and is one of the fastest growing commercial areas within Burton’s Biscuits & the biscuit category. We have great innovation & NPD teams, which has helped us form long term & key partnerships with major retailers across the UK.

In this role you’ll get to lead a channel and manage a small team, at Burton’s Biscuit it will very much feel like running your own business. You will have lots of autonomy, manage the full P&L for the channel, as well as helping drive innovation & NPD in order to grow the category.

Although 2020 was a challenging year for us all, we still managed to grow our revenue YOY. In 2020 we also saw one of the largest market share growth in the biscuit category. Helping shape our exciting strategy and plans for 2021 and beyond. We have lots of CAPEX investment planned across our bakeries in 2021, meaning there is no better time to join the business, as we look to enhance our baking capabilities.

What are the key ingredients needed for the role?

This role will suit an experience commercial professional, maybe you’ve had experience of leading a channel before or perhaps are a Senior National Account Manager looking to take a more strategic and that next step in your career. What is essential is that you have strong experience in leading and influencing, good knowledge around P&L, presenting to customers and delivering NPD within a FMCG environment.
