Commercial Manager

Do you have a proven track record of building a multi-channel sales strategy through retail, online/ecommerce, foodservice & wholesale?

Have you the entrepreneurial drive to launch and develop the future development plan of a high profile/niche food manufacturing company?

Do you have a passion for premium products & brands, engaging multiple customers, suppliers & industry representatives?

MacGregor Black are partnering with a Niche Premium Branded Food Manufacturer on the search for a Commercial Manager. This is a permanent role based in Scotland

As a member of the leadership team, reporting directly into the owner, you will be responsible for the full commercial function of the business. The primary focus is to develop the retail and e-commerce aspects of the business.

You will provide qualitative and quantitative information to address, assess:

  • Where does the company make money, product line margins and profitability?
  • What is the price competitiveness of our product offerings - regionally and nationally?
  • Are our suppliers competitive (cost and quality)?
  • Have we got partnership arrangements in place where appropriate?
  • Collaborating with the Finance team, how do we evaluate the financial impact of major projects (capital and revenue projects).
  • Cost of production & packaging, retail and wholesale price competitiveness.
  • Establish and maintain business models for all categories of product supply partners

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of the growing retail and e-commerce channels
  • Review product lines to ensure maximum margin and profitability
  • Conduct ongoing competitor reviews to ensure the competitiveness of our products both regionally and nationally
  • Manage supplier relations, whilst also reviewing alternate suppliers to ensure we maintain high quality at a competitive cost
  • Manage existing accounts as well as identifying and starting new relationships/channels
  • Work with the finance manager to evaluate the financial impact of major projects across the business
  • Development of the long term thinking for all sales channels: platforms, innovation, positioning and programs
  • Drive collaboration with strategic partners building a strategic and aligned market mapping framework which works across brand, channels and partnerships
  • Ensure all strategies and business plans support and elevate premium brand position

What we are looking for:

  • Significant strategic expertise in Retail / Ecommerce-online
  • Strong awareness of marketing strategies
  • Able to analyse qualitative and quantitative information and present in a professional manner
  • Strong market intelligence, staying up to date with the trends and trade developments
  • Ability to think and act vertically, action based but commercially grounded
  • Personable, with both functional and soft skills
  • Able to influence and impact new and existing relationships, work collaboratively, build trust and understand and deliver both cultural and business needs
  • Flexible / agile and comfortable working with ambiguity
