Job Details

An exciting new growth role within a well-established and high performing team. The purpose of this role is to develop and deliver strategic category plans with our highly valued customers. These plans will highlight and aid delivery of growth opportunities for Karro and the customer. The role holder will fully understand and communicate customer strategy, objectives and performance, along with consumer trends and attitudes; for all Karro categories.

Role profile

Category Management

  • Using all available data develop, present and deliver strategic category plans to our customers, which aim to deliver growth for the Karro and our key customers
  • Use category and consumer insights to develop growth recommendations for range changes, innovation, brand, promotions, merchandising and consumer marketing

Relationship Development

  • The role holder will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong category relationships within our customers, ensuring that Karro is positioned as the customer’s first choice for category insights and recommendations
  • This role will ensure that Karro delivers its strategic aim of customer intimacy

Strategy

  • Work closely with the category controller to develop and drive the long and short term marketing strategy for Karro and our key customers

Team Development

  • Support the category controller in motivating, recruiting and training for better performance and an effective service
  • Alongside the category controller, drive an understanding of category marketing principles throughout the wider business
  • Ensure the consumer is at the forefront of Karro vision and strategy 

Skills and experience:

  • Considerable experience within customer facing category management experience within an FMCG business supporting a major UK retailer
  • Proven track record of sales driving initiatives
  • Experience to be able to defend Karro category position with key retailer account and cope with pressure and tight deadlines
  • Strong communications skills, ability to communicate at all levels with internal and external contacts
  • Strong understanding of consumer needs, market trends and customer strategies
  • Demonstrable ability to take market and consumer insights and develop growth through driving category plans
  • High competence in MS word and power-point
  • Strong presentation skills, appropriate for audience
  • High level of numeracy and excel skills, ability to pull relevant insights from data, strong attention to detail and ability to report accurately
  • Ideally experience of category captaincy in a major UK retailer and understanding of the demands this entails
  • Experienced in use of market and retailer data: Kantar, EPOS, Nielsen
  • Demonstrates that information is used and managed correctly
  • Demonstrates ability to work as active team member and be supportive of other team members
  • Ability to challenge effectively and find alternative ways of working
  • Excellent people skills, ability to listen, accept and learn from constructive criticism
  • High levels of professionalism, integrity and ethical awareness
  • Results orientated with ability to successfully manage category projects
  • Relationship builder with ability to build and develop strong relationships within the customer and Karro internally

Preferred education, skills and experience

  • Degree calibre
  • Food industry experience
