What is category management?
Is it part of commercial? Marketing? Insights & innovation?
Maybe it’s the mongrel child of all things commercial…
Feels like every business has their own angle on what this hugely important business function actually is and where it sits.
What about you though? What do you think? How would you assess if a category job is for you?
Our client Symington’s are after the best FMCG marketing talent in Yorkshire – category is part of marketing for them and it’s integral to their game that they deliver the right insights for their brand team.
Working closely with Marketing Director, the brand people and the activation guys, you’ll be sweating the data and insights available to create key actions for delivering success.
Data is the new oil right?
It’s an energy source that needs to be combusted in the right engine and if it’s done right, your brand’s driving quicker than your neighbour’s.
You know this, which is why you love category. It’s not about the numbers and the spreadsheets. It’s about the fast-acting, altitude delivering impact of your insights.
The worst types of category jobs are those which relegate your insights to the little-league. “Can you please just make the numbers work for this presentation?” “Can you give us a monthly market update please?” “Why?” “It’s what the customer expects….” What happened to smashing expectations and finding new angles on winning trends? That’s where the value is right?!
You’ll be working with senior stakeholders to create pathways for brand goals. You’ll be working with retailers to demonstrate the value and performance that your brands offer for cooperative growth plans.
Investing in your career, Symington’s can offer a fresh new take on professional development with their new skills academy.
More importantly you’ll be joining the business as they start their next chapter with a wide-reaching attraction campaign for marketing talent, dovetailing with their ambitious investment for growth.
