We looking for an experienced Buyer / Category Manager to work in our Spirits Buying team within the Buying department. Reporting to the Head of Spirits, the role is responsible for the purchasing of a selection of spirits and composite items, and managing the Buying Assistant.

The ideal candidate will have 5-10+ years of direct composite and spirits buying experience, established relationships with key brand owners and European brokers and a proven ability to deliver market-leading costs by leveraging brand-owner negotiations and multi-source supply to minimise cost prices and maximise funding.

 

Manage spirits and composite (beer, cider, softs) sourcing process for designated suppliers, to achieve best-in-market pricing in all areas

  • Responsible for sourcing and managing relationships for a selection of spirits items across the portfolio
  • Overall responsibility for sourcing and managing the composite category, ensuring the best possible terms are achieved across the range for all channels
  • Responsible for all grey market, parallel and bridge sourcing across all categories in spirits and composite
  • Work with designated brand owners alongside Head of Spirits and European brokers to ensure market-leading pricing for all composite and designated spirits lines
  • Work alongside Head of Spirits on the purchasing timetable to maximise the impact of market promotions
  • Meet with suppliers regularly to discuss and manage range development and commercial terms
  • Oversee and control all price movements on all composite and designated spirits lines
  • Provide regular reports to Head of Spirits relating to pricing movements and all issues related to procurement developments
  • Responsible for achievement of budgeted margin targets for all composite and designated spirits lines
  • Lead the development of the Enotria & Coe composite portfolio, ensuring it supports the requirements of the company's multi-channel strategy
  • Co-ordinate monthly price list updates where relevant and ensure its delivery in required format to agreed deadlines
  • Participate and present in quarterly spirits and composite portfolio reviews
  • Drive clear communications with the rest of the business
  • Work with the Head of S&OP to implement and drive a robust S&OP process for composite lines
  • Responsible for ensuring product data is accurate and up-to-date for all composite and designated spirits lines
  • Work with the sales teams and training teams to ensure they have correct information, particularly with regard to major tenders and customers
  • Effectively manage line report, providing coaching and evaluation as required, and allocate and manage workload within team

 

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • 5-10 years direct composite and spirits buying experience
  • Excellent category knowledge; products, suppliers and the marketplace
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to maintain relationships with existing suppliers and source new suppliers for future products, with the ability to implement both strategic and tactical initiatives
  • Ability to assess products on a qualitative, commercial and marketability basis
  • Team player; able to actively contribute and participate as a member of a team and work well with colleagues at all levels
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • High level of commercial awareness
  • IT literate
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong analytical skills, possess numerical skill set to interpret statistics and make commercial decisions

Management experience is highly desirable.
