Food Business Development Manager

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, highly creative business development professional to join the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture to support the development of the Isle of Man’s Food and Drink industry.

You will play an important and visible role in the development of the future of the Island’s growing food and drink industry and will be responsible for developing and overseeing the delivery of the Isle of Man’s Food and Drink Strategy.

You will be responsible for managing the procurement of a range of initiatives including business advice and support for current and prospective food producers, managing supply chain issues, new product development and the creation of new markets (internal and export). In particular, you will be responsible for further enhancing the food and drink proposition of the Isle of Man through developing a promotional and marketing strategy. You will facilitate and support the growth and development of current food and drink businesses including new products. In addition, businesses relocating from other countries are to be supported in their set up and promotion.

You will deliver the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture’s Food Matters strategy using industry knowledge and expertise. In doing so, you will be responsible for achieving the Programme for Government key performance indicators (KPI’s) set for Food Matters strategy, namely increasing the value of the sector and numbers of jobs in the food and drink sector. In doing so, you will be responsible for developing solutions to filling identified gaps within the industry that meet current and future industry standards on the Isle of man, UK and Europe / Asia.

We are looking for someone who has a proven track record of business development and expertise within the food and drink industry – either retail, manufacturing or both. You must have a minimum of five years’ of relevant experience in the food and drink sector.

A full, valid driving licence and access to your own vehicle is essential for this post. You must also be prepared to work flexibly including being willing to attend functions outside of the normal office hours and undertake off-Island business travel.
