Job Title
Commercial & Inventory Planning Analyst
Reports to
Chief Financial Office
Purpose Of Role

  • Providing excellent commercial and inventory insight and analysis to ensure buying and sales teams can make optimal commercial decisions through better planning and review.
  • Helping to maximise the Company's gross profit and gross margin by optimising, as far as possible, stock levels and stock mix and minimising aged stock levels

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Accountabilities (personal area of control, where you own decision making and the results)

  • Weekly and periodic commercial reporting designed, generated and shared with buying and sales to allow improved future commercial decisions. Reporting will cover deal, supplier, customer, product, category, channel and regional hierarchies.
  • Daily and weekly reporting of stocks "sold" and stocks "shipped" to ensure clear and timely awareness of immediate business performance
  • Daily and weekly operational reporting designed to review and optimise process efficiencies within the warehouse and logistics function.
  • Weekly reporting generated and ownership of the process to ensure aged and at risk stock is monitored and controlled in order to minimise stock losses and stock write offs. Liaise with Buying and Sales to ensure proactive actions are in place to control aged and at risk stock, such as helping to develop clearance plans and preparing offers based on historic sales and customer information
  • Goods In: Manage phasing of all goods in to Basildon and outside storage locations in order to ensure the appropriate mix of stock is held in the warehouse locations
  • Stock Mix: review weekly stock mix by category / sub category to provide support & direction for Buying function on purchasing targets
  • Do Not Sell: work with Buyers to ensure DNS is resolved with 10 days of classification
  • Drive the improvement of existing inventory planning processes, procedures and structure
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, best practices and regularly applies to current processes

Responsibilities (you have a duty to carry out but ultimate decision making is owned by somebody else)

  • Ensure inventory is kept within target levels.
  • Analyse and report on product performance
  • Alert the Sales and Buying team of any potential out of stock, overstock issues or commercial issues identified
  • Assist in decision making process to determine whether stock purchased is received into the UK or European hub
  • Build and foster cross-functional relationships in support of driving improved metrics throughout the business

Key Performance Indicators

  • >90 day stock target maintained (£500k)
  • Level 2 category stock mix within 20% of budget
  • Level 2 category stock turns within 20% of budget
  • Loss making batches less than £750k annually

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in inventory/supply chain management and analysis
  • Knowledge of inventory models and metrics
  • Ability to work with large amounts of data and create reports
  • Advanced Excel and analytical skills
