Senior HSE Advisor

Based in Knaresborough

Part time (2 days a week), permanent

ROLE PURPOSE

  • To ensure that the site complies with all health, safety & environmental legislation and Knighton/Premier Standards.
  • Lead the SHE strategy and help to develop a long-term, achievable safety plan.
  • Carry out all other ad-hoc Management requests as consistent with the role

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Compliance

  • Work with the Leadership team to develop and implement site wide initiatives to embed behavioural safety and best practice approaches.
  • Work with the Leadership Team and Management Team to ensure legal and Knighton/Premier compliance to SHE rules and regulations
  • Work with Knighton & Group H&S Mgr's to implement the site’s OHSAS18001 H&S certificate and then subsequently to move towards the new 45001 certificate.
  • Liaise with production teams, and safety representatives to encourage safety & environmental culture across the site – Champion sponsorship, TOP’s,
  • Implement & manage the TOP’s process – conduct and record visits and actions, completion of reviews and site / central reporting
  • Manage and update the site duty manager matrix, ensure personal and individuals responsibilities are understood
  • Lead and coordinate site processes, ALARP, PUWER, RA’s, MS’s and COSHH, ensuring compliance and providing advice, training and support
  • Maintain contact with HSE, Knighton Health & Safety Manager, Premier Group Health & Safety & Environmental and relevant bodies as appropriate
  • Coordinate site responses and action following ‘cross check’ requests

Data capture, reporting and analysis

  • Monitor and record accidents, incidents and near misses providing support where necessary with investigation reports and ensuing actions
  • Responsible for accident, incident and near miss data reporting on a monthly basis (KPIs) for site to Knighton Health & Safety Manager and Group Health & Safety
  • Responsible for environmental data reporting on a monthly basis for site and Group Environmental
  • Oversee the site Contractor Database – including approval of Contracting companies, monitoring adherence to site Contractor rules, producing monthly performance report
  • Conduct face fit testing and record test results working with the Occupational Health Advisor
  • Monitoring Permits to Work on a daily basis and recording results on the Google Permit file
  • Administration of electronic and hardcopy risk assessments (Filing in logical manner, tracking review dates and monitoring action progress)
  • Address and respond to any claims

Inductions and training

  • Deliver the relevant part of the Induction process and advise on minimum standards
  • Deliver manual handling training for new starters and refresher training when due

Other

  • Assist the Site Manager in the management of the budget allocated to Safety
  • Play a full and active role in the site’s Management Team to ensure safe practices and behaviours are implemented
  • Actively influencing others in order to ensure safe working practices and behaviours are maintained
  • Liaise closely with the Occupational Health Adviser on shared issues
  • Determine and maintain policies relating to safety and environment
  • Promote safety and environment initiatives and improvement projects / opportunities
  • To carry out any reasonable management request

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Essential:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or National General Certificate
  • IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent qualification or experience of maintaining ISO14001 environmental management systems
  • Knowledge of SHE legislation
  • Computer literate (good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment
  • Risk management (risk control and risk reduction)
  • Report writing
  • Data collection and trend identification
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work within a multi-functional team
  • Accident investigation training
  • Attention to detail, diligence and organisational skills
  • Good decision maker with the ability to undertake investigations and lead safer working practices
  • Previous Audit experience and ability to lead internal and external health and safety auditing teams
