Occupational Health Advisor
Full time, permanent
Based over 2 sites; 3 days at Carlton, 2 days at Worksop
ROLE PURPOSE
To provide a quality service that protects, promotes and enhances the health of all employees – an integral part of the business at the leading edge in Occupational Health. The role is a full time position split between our Carlton and Worksop site.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Health Surveillance and Promotion
- Manage health surveillance and screening for the whole site at pre-employment, for routine health screens, (on return to work after absence – where applicable) and for agency workers (where applicable)
- Provide medical advice regarding employees’ capability and fitness to perform their job role through the management referral process
- Update, maintain, review and audit medical records
- To ensure strict confidentiality standards are maintained
- Advise and introduce best practice and keep up-to-date with Occupational Health activitieS
- Be available to provide consultation and treatment if required on site for minor illnesses and injuries at work without requiring an appointment
- Develop, manage and deliver health promotional activities
- Assess fitness to work on pre-employment, post sickness absence and post accident
- Provide a referral service for employees to seek advice from physiotherapist and counsellor where required
Occupational Health Management
- Manage absence and advise on observed specific trends from this data, liaising closely with Operations and HR.
- Provide monthly reporting on absence and health surveillance to head office and site
- Working in partnership with the line managers to ensure smooth transition into workplace after period of absence.
- Advise on adjustments needed for jobs to ensure that employees can work safely and without risks to health
- Conduct home visits where required
- Ensure compliance with health legislation
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED
Essential:
- At least two years’ experience in providing Occupational Health services with retail/manufacturing
- Registered General Nurse
- Degree in Occupational Health or equivalent
- Health surveillance/ screening
- Clinical competence (diagnosis, treatment and first aid)
- Health promotion (planning, practice and evaluation)
- Health assessment (pre-employment and post-sickness)
- Rehabilitation and re-settlement
- Identification of the OH needs of the site
- Data collection and trend identification
- Time management
- Co-operation and team-working
- Report-writing
- IT literate – be proficient in the use of MS Office applications – Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
- People management
- Business awareness

- Counselling and listening skills
- Vaccination administration
- Presentation skills
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation
