Great Britain’s gambling industry is in a constant state of change, fuelled by shifting consumer behaviour and the rapid growth of technology. It’s high profile politically too, and the legislation controlling gambling is constantly under scrutiny. Within this uniquely challenging and evolving environment, The Gambling Commission’s role is to ensure that gambling is crime free, fair and open - and that children and vulnerable people are protected. 

The gambling market is a modern one that’s working to adapt to all the challenges today’s business world brings. It covers a myriad of products, industries, technologies, consumer trends, expectations and legal frameworks. As such, the Gambling Commission needs to have in-depth knowledge of a range of sectors, how they are evolving and how this will impact consumers. 

Now, the Commission is looking for a high calibre Retail Expert to join them and act as the organisation’s specialist on the retail industry. 

As the Retail Expert, you will help the Gambling Commission to understand the retail industry and how it is evolving in reaction to the challenges it faces. 

In this important role, you will provide insight into key changes within the retail industry, including offline and online sales, and how this impacts consumers. 

You will ensure that the Commission makes the right decisions on significant questions, takes the correct action to protect consumers and implements industry best practice. 

Additionally, you will: 

- Build on your existing understanding of retail channels, including products, wider sector trends, innovation and the applicable legal framework and regulations
- Provide expertise into how the market works, why and what the future holds  
- Share your knowledge via training and briefings 
- Help to build relationships with external stakeholders 

To be considered, you will need: 

- Exceptional retail expertise and the ability to communicate your insight to others 
- Advanced analytical and written communication skills 

Pragmatic and decisive, as the Retail Expert, you will have exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills. You will also be able to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and work well on your own initiative.

Previous digital experience would be highly desirable, as would expertise in the gambling or similar industry. Previous regulatory experience would also be beneficial.
