Could you climb a mountain?
The role of sales is like climbing a mountain every day. You start at the base and make your way to the summit but instead of climbing you negotiate, build relationships and analyse countless amounts of data. You also have your fair share of disasters, not quite an avalanche but equally as catastrophic to the end goal, but as we know it's about being prepared for this and dealing with it appropriately.
So, what do you need? Not oxygen and guide ropes, no. Instead you need experience of working within the Commercial function of a food manufacturer, dealing with retail accounts (doesn't matter which), if you don't have these then like a climber, although they COULD climb Everest without oxygen, you and I know that it is going to be extremely difficult. Personality wise you share more with the climber than you think, determination, persistence and an analytical mind are the key attributes required, after all you don't want to be stepping on any loose rocks.
So, what is awaiting you at the summit, thankfully not thin air, snow and freezing cold temperatures. But, instead the opportunity to work for a business that is part of a bigger group, at arguably one of their nicest sites, with many opportunities to progress to Commercial Manager.
