BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Gift Books and Gift Stationery into the Giftware markets

£25,000 – 30,000 basic

…with the potential to earn £40,000 - £50,000, perhaps more.

Are YOU the ‘superstar’ in your current sales team?

ABOUT YOU:

  • Do you ask customers great questions?
  • Are you always curious to find better ways of doing things?
  • Can you ‘think on your feet’?
  • Do you believe in hard work?
  • Would you like professional training to learn to do what you really do, so you can do it even better?
  • Do you think you can – or could learn to – sell a ‘service’, not just selling ‘product’ from a ‘catalogue’?
  • Can you be really persuasive?

If the answer to ANY of these 7 questions is a “no”, then please please don’t waste our time - and yours - replying to this advert, as you won’t get through this thorough and rigorous recruitment process.

Our business is a relatively young one that is expanding fast, so we are recruiting in areas of the country where we are currently the weakest.  If you are an experienced business person with a provable track record of winning new business, who ‘looks the part’ in high level discussions and negotiations, and is also happy doing the ‘nitty-gritty’ merchandising role that can need doing in some sales situations, and you live in one of the following areas, then please read on:

  • West Midlands - ideally located in Birmingham or south of Birmingham.
  • Yorkshire - ideally in striking distance of M62, M1, A1(M).
  • Tyne & Wear – and ‘borders’
  • Scotland – ideally between Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling.

ABOUT US?

(AND WHY ARE WE A GOOD COMPANY FOR YOU TO WORK FOR?)

We supply gift books and gift stationery – matching the right products to the right place – in a number of interesting and diverse retail gift channels including:

  • garden centres
  • heritage retailers
  • department stores
  • gift shops
  • card shops

Finally, do you have an ‘address book’ in any of these channels that might add value to our business as it would ‘open doors’?  Of course that would be a bonus.

We are growing fast.  We believe in positive, positive, positive attitudes.  We are committed to delivering promises.  We know that success comes when we help others to be more successful too.  And we have a great product.

OPEN-ENDED COMMISSION STRUCTURE

To be frank honest open about the package, these territories do not have many customers – so need lots of hard work from someone with ability, drive and enthusiasm.  We have employed ‘superstar’ reps in other parts of the country who have grown our sales exponentially in the last two and three years, and are achieving above mentioned commissions, and are a ‘proof of concept’ that what we are doing works and is do-able.  (Success comes when we go for larger, quality accounts and offer a one-stop-shop service, and then follow this up by delivering the promise to make them more successful or save the customer time.)

You will be paid commission once your territory reaches ‘break-even’.  As our commission structure is open-ended thereafter, the sky’s the limit.  So expect only to be paid the basic rate starting out, knowing that after a couple of years hard work, you could be earning-very-nicely-thank-you.

WHAT CAR?

You will need to own your own car.  We pay a generous mileage allowance of 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles, and 25p per mile thereafter.  This gives you the freedom to drive a car of your choice.  If you choose to drive an economical car, and drive it defensively, then the likely outcome is you will make a ‘profit’ doing so, when compared to driving a company car and paying the ‘Benefit-In-Kind’ tax on that car.  However if you are the car-conscious-type, then you might like to spend a little extra on it, and your car will not be chosen by your current sales manager or the company accountant, but by you.

NEXT STEPS

The interview process will include an informal and short first meeting to establish the ‘fit’ between what you want and what we need.  (And you might be checking us out as much as we are checking you out!)  This will be followed by psychometric tests, aptitude tests and skills assessments.  Then a long very formal second interview.

Please only apply if you think you have what it takes to be a superstar selling in this business.
