The Company

A £multi-million turnover non-food consumer goods supplier. This company has a strong brand identity, reinforced by powerful TV advertisement. They specialise in supplying the horticulture industry with state of the art products. Anything from seeds to garden tools to weed prevention sprays. They do it and need you to merchandise it. Their typical customers are garden centres/hardware stores.

The Role

As a Customer Development Executive, you will be responsible for increasing and maximising the availability, share of shelf and promotional space for all the brands product range across a defined account base.  You will also be responsible for identifying and exploiting new merchandising opportunities to grow overall sales. You will be tasked with following a set journey plan and keeping up to date with latest product launches/changes. A degree of physical fitness is required as there will be lots of lifting/carrying products.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Follow a set journey plan that achieves the business targets
  • Build trusting relationships with garden centres and hardware stores
  • Present the benefits of stocking the brand and be proactive in winning display space
  • Identify new opportunities
  • Report against the area sales plan

The person for this CDE role:

This would be perfect for someone who wants to get into a junior sales role and potentially progress through this company.  Someone who knows how to merchandise, is great with people at all levels and is keen to submerge themselves into a growing industry. They have been known to employ people with strong retail backgrounds/merchandising backgrounds.  FMCG experience is desirable.  In addition, we are looking for:

  • A dynamic individual and a self-starter
  • Someone with a genuine interest in the outdoor/garden world
  • Excellent sales skills. Able to influence decisions and close for sales orders
  • Great personality – positive, likeable, good sense of humour, builds relationships easily
  • Embraces being accountable for the area performance and prioritises constantly in order to meet targets
  • Possess the potential and desire to progress to a more senior role. There is potential for this role to progress into a Field Sales Rep role within 18 months.
  • Due to the shape and size of the products an element of physical fitness is required
