The company 

Our client is a subsidiary of a European foods group and a leading player in its category, producing branded and own-label products for retail, discounters, foodservice, delivered wholesale and cash & carry.

The company has a strong reputation for product quality, NPD and working in collaboration with its customers to exploit profitable market opportunities overlooked by rivals. Flexibility and adaptability are two of the company’s key market advantages.

The role

The company wishes to appoint a hands-on Business Development Manager with strong “hunter” capabilities and a high degree of personal drive, initiative and commitment. You will have full margin accountability for UK sales with a high degree of autonomy.

Your role will be to increase distribution and volume of a range of branded products and to identify and negotiate new own-label opportunities. You will also be required to open new accounts resulting in profitable order values by establishing buying relationships and implementing the appropriate sales strategy to achieve this. 

The person

Candidates should be strong sales closers with proven FMCG sales or business development experience gained in the food industry. Experience of selling to a diverse range of sectors i.e. foodservice delivered, retail, discounters, wholesale, cash & carry and catering end users is required. Previous chilled foods and own-label experience would be an advantage.

Importantly, the job requires a highly-motivated self-starter with good communication and interpersonal skills, plus a desire to achieve both commercial and personal success through their own endeavours. You will be able to demonstrate a proficient grasp of costs and margin drivers with strong negotiation and persuasion skills together with a good network of key industry contacts.
