My client has been manufacturing their quality product for over 75 years and their history can be traced back to late 1930’s. They focus on maintaining the highest standards and quality possible for an extensive customer base. In 1991, the business was purchased by a major player in the European FMCG marketplace, supplying both UK and European markets with an extensive range of goods from its many manufacturing sites across Europe. 

The UK division is a profitable ‘own label’ food manufacturing business with a turnover circa £50m, they are currently recruiting a Head of Sales who will report to the UK Managing Director.  

Overview:

As part of the senior Business leadership team the key responsibility of the new Head of Sales position is to operate within a cross-functional team including sales, account management, customer service and R&D. 

The key to this role is to develop and deliver a full sales strategy that matches the company's ambition, to define key account and new channel priorities.

Job Specification:

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that all sales budgets are set and delivered to all colleagues within the team.
  • Present and report on sales and customer performance against budget.
  • Develop and deliver 'Best Practice' as a minimum standard for customer service, ensuring that all standards are exceeded at all times in terms of KPI's. 
  • Deliver both a strategic and operational plan expanding a client base and delivering sales growth.
  • Identification of key areas for improvement in both Sales and Customer ordering and ensure new processes are cost effective, time efficient.

Candidate Specification:

  • Several years UK grocery retailer experience including private label and brand Key Account management ideally in ambient and confectionery sectors   
  • Ability to network and generate new business for the company ensuring continued client growth.
  • Can think outside 'the box' having a 'can do attitude' and the ability to roll up your sleeves'.
  • Knowledge of non-key retail markets (wholesale, food service or specialist food sectors) would be an advantage 

It goes without saying you will be a passionate leader of people with working knowledge and experience of the food industry. You will understand food manufacturing and ingredients and will be able to demonstrate innovation within branded and own label solutions. Importantly you will work with pace and have a get-up-and-go attitude. 

You will display exemplary communication skills with a robust customer relationship management background. You will live within an easy daily commute of the UK head office in South Wales but also willing to travel both domestically and internationally and with this in mind a second language would be highly desirable.
