An exciting opportunity to work within our fast paced Commercial Team based at our London Heathrow site has arisen. The role provides an excellent opportunity for somebody wanting to learn all there is to know about the airline catering industry and can lead to career progression within Alpha LSG.

What the role is:

This is a challenging role, ideal for somebody with good basic food knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a flexible approach to working hours and used to meeting deadlines. Whilst the role is predominantly office based, you will be required to work with chefs, buyers, and the operational business teams to ensure accurate menu specifications and food costs detail is issued in a timely manner.

What you’ll be doing will include:

  • To collate, review, and enter full menu recipe detail into the company data base. This will include understanding product content, quantities, batch yields and methods and will require the ability to talk knowledgably through this information with our team of development and unit chefs
  • To produce full detailed menu specifications including photography of selected product, component weights, and selecting correct equipment items
  • To produce accurate food costs for all meals using the company data base, product knowledge and information provided by chefs, menu grids or by accessing airline dedicated websites
  • To attend menu development workshops and presentations where the customer and our chefs work together to agree meal content. As part of this team you will be required to assist with the room set up, take notes, be aware of food budgets, product cost and manage the photography required to capture the agreed meals
  • Support unit teams on a day to day basis using airline account expertise and system knowledge to investigate/resolve queries whilst maintaining accurate data in line with agreements
  • Support the unit before and during menu changes; including attendance at start up meetings and assisting with product/specification queries
  • Obtain and action specific airline requirements by use of airline dedicated websites
  • Be accountable for the maintenance of a clean and accurate data system at all times

What you’ll have will include:

  • A good understanding of food and food production methods
  • Possesses a high level of analytical and numerical skills, including attention to detail and accuracy, must be methodical, and logical in their approach to work
  • Strong IT skills; experience of using in house systems and Microsoft Access, Excel, Office, Word
  • Good numeracy skills and attention to detail is business critical
  • Possess commercial awareness and understanding of pricing policies including food cost and labour values
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbally and written, with experience of professionally liaising with colleagues, managers and external customers on the telephone daily
  • Flexibility to travel and undertake work across our different business units
  • Ability to solve problems quickly using own initiative
  • Prioritise and manage own workloads effectively
