The General Merchandise business at Ocado is enjoying rapid growth across both ocado.com and in the creation of our new ‘destination sites’ (fetch.co.uk, sizzle.co.uk and fabled.com) which specialise in specific categories.

The first of our destination sites, fetch.co.uk, has seen impressive growth since its launch in 2013. We are looking to recruit a Senior Buying Manager to manage a small team in order to continue to grow the existing business and develop further categories and potential related  services. Their role will be to objectively assess the current business, monitor the competition and ensure we fully exploit all potential opportunities. Working with key internal stakeholders and suppliers to better understand the different categories and help drive innovation, growth and efficiency.

Roles and responsibilities:
•Develop and manage a Buying team and Vet to improve the commercial performance of Fetch
•To track sales and margin performance and take corrective action where required on a daily basis
•Support and train the team in using available analytics and industry data and reports, to make informed business decisions regarding  range and pricing
•Deliver best in class. compelling customer offer through effective cost negotiation, range selection and management, supplier management and promotional activity.
•To enhance cash sales and supplier investment by effectively project managing certain ranges, suppliers, or events
•Manage product development and ongoing commercial relationships
•Manage key supplier relationships and ensure we are working collaboratively to build their business amongst Fetch customers
•Develop a rigorous Trading plan for the year in collaboration with the Marketing and Web Trading Functions and ensure this is communicated to the wider team in a timely manner
•Monitor and report on industry trends and innovation
•Deputise for the Head of Buying (General Merchandise) during absence/holiday/off site periods

Skills and experience:
•Educated to Degree Level (or equivalent) with a minimum of 2:1 (Preferable)
•Strong commercial understanding and the ability to prioritise projects that  deliver continued growth or make best use of available resource
•Strong interpersonal skills; the Senior Buying Manager will need to work closely with a number of key stakeholders  
•A strong record of supplier negotiation
•A minimum of five years buying experience at an industry-leading pet retailer or top specialist pet food manufacturer
•A flexible approach, they will be overseeing a small team responsible for the daily trading decisions of Fetch whilst focusing on the long-term interests of the business
•Experience in driving successful commercial outcomes 
•Experience building propositions and successfully delivering them 
•Proven experience within an e commerce background (preferred)
•Self motivated and confident decision maker who is able to work independently
•Have ambition and a real passion for all things customer-centric
•Flexibility to travel offsite to external meetings as required
•PC Literate – at least intermediate level MS Office
