ROLE PURPOSE

The Global Operations team supports the Nielsen Commercial teams, by monitoring, supporting and testing the systems used to supply our clients with products. Data Production and Client Services is a vibrant and multi-functional team that is at the heart of Nielsen Book. The team is responsible for the loading of book product information from direct data feeds and via an online portal from publishers and 3rd party data providers. It monitors that internal database and production systems are working as expected, ensures data feeds and products meet delivery schedules, and manages client feedback from publishers and retailers.

In addition, the team is responsible for loading retailer sales information collected at point of sale from thousands of outlets internationally and the compilation of the Nielsen BookScan book charts in nine countries.

This role requires the successful individual to show competence across a range of skills. The candidate will need to focus on providing great service to our internal and external clients and be able to demonstrate experience of analysing, validating and/or reconciling data on a database system.

Previous experience of Book Retailing, Publishing, EPoS Systems or Market Research, or customer facing roles is desirable.

Key Job Responsibilities:

To operate production software to fulfil client requirements and meet delivery schedule 100% on time and without re-work.


To handle publisher enquiries through the Publisher Help Desk and advise on the most appropriate method of supplying information.

Checking all client deliverables both standard and ad-hoc are being generated to normal schedules and systems are performing as expected.

To control, support and where necessary initiate processes that collect and load electronic files from data suppliers into backend systems. To ensure loading schedules match cycle times so customer deliverable deadlines are achieved.

Appropriate monitoring of load queues to guarantee files are input in the correct sequence and that the load is balanced to optimise system resources. Identify missing data and incomplete or incorrect loads.

To support systems by following correct procedures following system failures or data errors. To respond promptly to queries from stakeholders and customers.

To gain familiarity with company escalation procedures and assign correct severity level for system and data errors.

To ensure that data supplies to appointed key customers delegated to the Publisher and Key Client Services team are monitored and supported to provide appropriate quality and timeliness of information from our database to the appointed key customers within agreed service levels.

To ensure that assigned territories from the weekly BookScan mismatches are supported within the team within agreed service levels.

To receive, process and check data supplied by allocated data customers against other known information, assessing how information can be best applied to the database.

To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:

Minimum Entry A Level English and Maths
Highly proficient general PC skills
Ability to manipulate data within MS Excel
Demonstrated experience working to deadlines
Experience analysing, validating or reconciling data
Ability to determine, solve or escalate problems
Ability to manage own workload effectively
