An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Procurement Manager to join our FMCG family, a diverse, driven and dynamic company that holds a rich and prestigious heritage within the food industry. To this day, the business continue to produce products of the highest quality for customers around the world. They have experienced 25% growth YOY since 2014 and have this projected until 2020.

With the role being brand new the Procurement Manager position is very important for the company. You will be responsible for all the purchasing elements within the business along with looking to improve supplier agreements, SLA’s and KPI with the supplier network.

The client are looking for a motivated individual who is confident in their capabilities and holds a practical approach towards their work; a hardworking team player with a “can do” attitude. The client are flexible in their approach to working and looking for someone who can be accountable for their work and work autonomously.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ownership of sourcing plan for US$30m+ spend annually with a global network of suppliers (Thailand, France, Spain, Austria, US, Uruguay, Australia)
  • Introduce improved supplier agreements, SLAs and KPIs for the supplier network with supporting regular supplier reviews to actively manage suppliers to achieve best in class service levels
  • Manage tender process for wet food suppliers annually – this involves in depth understanding of the capacities, capabilities, commercial fit and service levels of the main 5 suppliers
  • Ownership of product cost reduction project through improvement of understanding of product cost breakdown and working in partnership with suppliers to identify and deliver cost reduction through a variety of methods. This will involve setting up and working with cross functional teams (including internal and 3rd party)
  • Support the warehouse and freight project manager through the tender process – the company is reviewing the warehouse and freight service providers and moving to a future rationalised and improved model
  • Support new product development projects for the company – we are a business that is growing rapidly and successfully and innovation plays an important part of this strategy. Finding, reviewing, selecting, appointing and managing the right suppliers at pace is key to this work
  • Understand the 5 year plan of the company in the areas of volume growth, product category coverage and geographic expansion and develop the supplier network to support this plan
  • Understand the key commercial aspects of the company supply chain and work with the Supply Chain Director to align the supplier network to deliver these
  • Work to deliver the company financial targets of product costs, working capital and cash flow through supplier management
  • Support the technical and quality departments to resolve product quality issues – both short term fixes and long term resolution

The Candidate:

It is imperative that the applicant has procurement experience, specifically with food would be desirable however not essential.

  • Experience of sourcing consumer products, preferably food as finished goods from third party suppliers – product supply is 100% outsourced
  • Experience of working with international suppliers
  • Preferably CIPS qualified with a minimum of 5 years procurement experience
  • Commercial awareness and strong analytical skills. The company uses a supply network with high volumes of products, over 600 SKUs and a variety of different pack formats. The candidate will need to develop an understanding of the product portfolio and supplier network with suitable cost structure and drivers to support delivery of the goals outlined above
  • There will be some travel with the role – existing and new supplier visits, up to 15% of time abroad on these visits
  • Strong team player as the role will involve working closely with the supply chain team and the broader business.
