Volac International Limited is a £250m family run and owned dairy nutrition business, based in Orwell, on the border between Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire. As one of Europe’s fastest growing, most influential and deeply regarded dairy nutrition businesses, their job is to make the best, market-leading and innovative products to build deep, long-lasting and influential customer relationships.

Volac specialises in the development, manufacture and supply of high performance dairy products through two strategically linked businesses – Animal Nutrition and Human Nutrition. Volac operates four production facilities in the UK and five overseas sales offices in countries including Ireland, Italy, Czech Republic, USA and Australia. Along with these, three industry leading production joint ventures in Devon, the Netherlands and Malaysia also make significant contributions.

Over the next five years Volac are aiming to double in size to £500m. To achieve this growth, Volac is transforming the way it works. Along with this, specific appointments must be made to ensure the business can move forward in the most productive way possible.     

The Role

Volac is already a successful business within the Performance & Dairy Ingredients market. Following a recent internal restructure, Volac have recognised that they now require a Business Development Manager to join their already high performing commercial function.

Reporting to the Director of Performance & Dairy Ingredients, the principal accountability for this role will be to bring seniority and strategic focus to the commercial development of the Performance Ingredients business.

Principally, the focus of this role will be to lead and deliver select commercial innovation projects that will ensure the future profitable growth of the Performance Ingredients business area. In addition, the successful candidate will need to deliver on identifying new commercial partnerships and joint ventures and other structural enablers of future growth.   

Requirements

To be considered for this role you must have significant commercial and leadership experience within nutritional foods, preferably with international B2B customer experience. Candidates with suitable B2C experience will be considered, and it would be considered an advantage if you have also worked in sports/performance nutrition.

It is essential you can take the lead on commercial projects, and have the capability to identify market opportunities and act upon them. You must be action orientated with an entrepreneurial drive, and have a deep understanding of product innovation processes in foods – this will include technical development and application based product development.

Above all, you must have the ability to influence both internally and externally and be willing to commit at least 30 to 50 days of annual travel.
