Key Account Manager – London Premium On Trade (Craft Spirits)

Maverick Drinks is a rapidly growing distribution agency within the Atom Group (which also includes Masterofmalt.com) representing many exceptional craft and boutique spirits produced both in the UK, and abroad. Our mission is to drive change in the spirits industry by reducing our customers’ reliance on mainstream brands. We help our customers to deliver better experiences and higher margins by giving consumers access to a higher quality product.
You will get to lead the conversation with our on trade customers around our stable of multi-award-winning brands including Bathtub Gin and Rumbullion! (Ableforth’s), That Boutique-y Whisky Co, Drinks by the Dram, St George, FEW Spirits, New York Distilling and The Handmade Cocktail Co.
We are growing at an astronomical rate. Hundreds of percent year-on-year, and that growth is still accelerating. We’re in the process of a global roll-out programme, and our brands are about to hit the US market.
About the role
Do you know the London On-Trade like the back of your hand? Want to be able to have collaborative conversations with bars, hotels and restaurants that drive mutual value for both parties? Fancy working with one of the most exciting portfolios in the craft spirits category? Then look no further, this role could be just what you’re searching for! You will be responsible for driving new business in one of the on trade’s most exciting and vibrant cities in the world, London. Engaging a commercial mindset and harnessing your entrepreneurial spirit, you will drive distribution and growth of the Maverick Drinks brand portfolio across your customer base. You will act as a consultant to the trade, bringing customers on the craft spirits journey.
Main purpose of the role:
This role is highly commercial and requires the ability to build great relationships whilst delivering mutual value for both the customer and Maverick Drinks.
- Utilising key contacts within your network you will create new business opportunities across your territory and establish a broad and diverse customer base. These will be what you deem to be the best on trade outlets for our brands to be seen in.
- You will create the territory strategy in line with the Maverick strategic objectives, with a clear vision for target listings both on back bar and cocktail menus.
- You will manage the full customer picture, keeping our CRM updated with the relevant account information, and will plan and execute A&P investment brilliantly to ensure that all trade marketing activity drives a positive return on investment.
- As an expert on the craft spirits category and consumer you will share category trends and insights to facilitate decision making and product ranging, leading to a greater presence for our brands.
- Your primary focus is to drive distribution, visibility and rate of sale of the Maverick Drinks portfolio, and additionally to leverage these listings to extend our range within key customers
- You will utilise the wider internal team, including our world class brand ambassadors, to deliver liquid, brand and category training to embed our brands and drive value for the customer.
- Liaising with the route-to-market NAM you will ensure product availability and accessibility across your account base.
About you
- A proven track record of premium on trade management within London.
- The ability to develop new business is essential to this role as the customer base expands, you will therefore have a strong demonstrable skill set within this area.
- You will have delivered exceptional NPD launches within the spirits category.
- You will be confident in talking about category, trends and cocktails.
- Able to deliver mutual value through sound commercial collaboration.
- Strong commercial acumen and numeracy skills with the ability to identify value growth in all areas of the customer.
- You should be presentable, articulate and polite.
- You will possess a strong sense of purpose, be proactive and capable of working autonomously.
- You will think outside the box and be able to challenge the status quo within your account base, be maverick.
- This role is field based, and may require some nationwide travel, therefore a full UK driving licence is preferred.
- It would be great if you had your Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Qualification - Higher Level.
- If you’ve curated cocktail lists with some of the great bars in London, or educated the trade through training sessions this would be hugely valuable.
