JOB PROFILE: Senior Demand Planner

Role Purpose Statement
Responsible for all forecast activities associated with customers and products. The role creates and manages the demand for their categories, incorporating statistics and business intelligence and other demand signals to improve service for the customers of the demand plan.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining system generated forecasts for a defined area of responsibility to drive continuous improvement to company set targets (forecast accuracy, DPMO, customer first time availability, waste value reduction)
  • Carrying out analysis of sales history, promotional, seasonal and forthcoming activities in order to generate an optimal demand signal
  • Manage a daily / weekly / monthly forecasting process at both detail and aggregated level, ensuring the statistical forecast is managed to the correct model ie set and forget, therefore driving efficiencies to maximise productivity, service to our customers and relieving depot resource and space constraints
  • Collaborative demand planning with other departments such as Marketing, Customer Supply Chain and Product Supply in order to get the best business intelligence, to drive improvements by feeding back the result of insight to stop poor forecasting and drive good communication
  • Communicating to supply chain colleagues, suppliers to advise changes to trends and better understand the impacts and find improvements
  • Root cause analysis techniques to establish underlying causes of KPI shortfalls to create, implement and where appropriate support cross functional improvement plans to rectify
  • Support the governance of customer insights/business intelligence.Evaluate the effectiveness of demand forecasting through the definition and collection of KPI data
  • Investigating re-occurring stock issues on waste and shortages to get the root cause, improve the demand signal and minimise risk
  • New product introduction – influence the hurdle rate for new lines and validate the forecast supplied, feedback on the success of a new line and make recommendations as appropriate
  • Support projects in Demand Planning and around the business to ensure the information has been validated and supports the improvement process

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Essential at least 3 years’ experience in a Supply Chain role, preferably in retail, foodservice or FMCG company
  • Preferable education to degree level or equivalent, eg APICS
  • Experience of using an ERP system, preferably SAP, APO DP
  • Microsoft skills
  • High numeracy skills, analytical and problem solving skills through application of lean/six sigma methodologies
  • Strong communication and listening skills with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Strong leadership skills with a high degree of commercial acumen
