IT Functional Team Lead

Job purpose
The IT Functional Team Principal role exists primarily to provide clear leadership and Direction to a multi-skilled team who will champion, and be accountable for, the relationship between the IT Department and the nominated Business Units (BU’s) with the goal of driving the simplification agenda and improving the engagement moving forward.
The role is accountable for the day to day running of the functional team, management of the demand into IT from the nominated BU’s, all matters relating to staff resourcing, both forecasting and reporting, as well as a multitude of IT Services provided to the nominated BU’s; specifically:
  • Business Relationship
  • Business Analysis
  • Requirements capture
  • Application Support (including out of hours)
  • Process and solution optimisation#
2. Dimensions
The role is a senior position in the Brakes IT department and is accountable for a team of < ?? > individuals who provide providing a range of IT services into nominated BU’s
Whilst not a specific budget holder, the role is accountable for the prioritization, management, forecasting & tracking and delivery of Small change work from the nominated BU’s against an agreed budget.
The role will have sign-off accountability for the day to day discretionary costs incurred by the team. This includes, travel, expenses, training costs, equipment, holidays etc. Maintaining an efficient, well equipped mobile and responsive team will need to be balanced with acceptable levels of spend
3. Role context
It is critical to the future success of the IT department that we dramatically improve the speed and quality of delivery as well as improving the engagement with our key stakeholders in the rest of the Brakes organisation. To this end the Functional teams have been created to improve the communication between IT and the rest of the organisation.
The context of the role is to act in an internal consultative capacity, between the IT department and the nominated BU’s. The role will be expected to champion a two way dialogue with the BU’s by attending monthly BU meetings and actively contributing to the definition of the BU strategy and vision.
The role will be expected to identify opportunities for innovation, both within the IT department as well as in the BU’s and champion their delivery.
The role will be expected to lead the team in aligning more closely with the super users in the BU’s to identify opportunities to optimise, improve user education, reduce the dependency on out of hours support teams and ultimately reduce the number of service desk tickets.
The role will need to manage multiple, often conflicting priorities, from their own BU’s as well as across the three functional team Leads in order to maximise the delivery of business benefit to Brakes as a whole.
