This family run business are importers and distributors of ambient food products, supplying to retailers and wholesalers throughout the UK. They have an opportunity for an experienced Buyer to join the team, reporting into the Commercial Director.

You will have at least 2 years buying experience in a similar capacity in the food industry, strong knowledge of ambient products is essential in this role. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are also extremely important.

Your job is to effectively manage buying activities for the portfolio of products you are responsible for in the most cost effective and profitable manner, ensuring regular un-interrupted availability of bulk and pre-packed products, minimising overstock situations and write-offs, thus enabling the company to meet sales, cost and profit targets.  

Duties:

• To ensure the availability of the Right Product, at the Right Price, of the Right Quality, in the Right Quantity at the Right Time, consistently.
• Ensure Products Specifications are complete, current and communicated to suppliers
• Demand Planning & Forecasting
• Negotiating the most competitive prices from suppliers at the best possible terms
• Negotiating the most competitive Shipping Terms & Rates continually                  
• To ensure no sales opportunities are lost due to non-availability or non-competitive cost of purchase.
• Maintaining excellent supplier relations and developing alternative suppliers.       
• New Product Development & New Supplier Development Activity continuously   
• Advising the management on continuous improvement measures to add value to the business

Experience:

• Experience as a Buyer within an ambient food environment
• Experience sourcing products from suppliers globally
• Strong negotiation skills
• Ability to communicate at all levels
• Knowledge of the end to end supply chain
