Job Description

Convenience Retail is a fast growing part of our retail organisation. Over recent years we have invested significantly in re-formatting our service stations to ensure that are satisfying the needs of our customers today and in the future. In an ever changing retail environment, we aim to better understand customer shopping missions and develop our offer to meet those customer needs. Building a strong compelling offer in core categories such as Food to Go and Food for Later is key to succeed in a very competitive market.

Your role/scope

As a category manager you'll look after the vision and strategy for your various categories in support of our business sales and profitability goals. You'll build great relationships with our suppliers and help shape decisions regarding the product mix, pricing, merchandising and promotions.

Here's some of the things you'll do in this role: 

  • Nurture productive relationship with important retail departments and various different stakeholders
  • Work in close collaboration with agencies and external suppliers.
  • Look after the evolution of the overall business strategy.
  • Support delivery of the agreed Targets & Resources plan (T&R), financials and HSSE targets.

You'll also look after: 

  • Your own weekly sales and margin goals and targets.
  • Reaching all recognised and relevant promotional timescales.
  • The ongoing delivery of your category plans.

Requirements 

What we need from you:

The following qualifications & experience will form a key part of the evaluation process and the selection of the candidate for the role:

  • First-hand experience and understanding of fast moving consumer goods marketing with excellent negotiation skills and building supplier relationship.
  • You'll be the type of person who can combine your ability to collaborate and build lasting relationships with suppliers, with a desire to always negotiate the best deals.
  • You'll have a deep understanding understanding of retail fundamentals of buying (Tobacco, Alcohol, Grocery), assorting, placement, merchandising and retail operational processes.
  • You'll have analytical outlook with the ability to empathise with the customer. You'll be able to see the world through the eyes of the consumer.
  • You'll love to see the bigger picture. You enjoy organising your time effectively and staying focussed on longer term and valuable goals, rather than finding the 'quick wins'.
