Apley Farm Shop

Apley Farm Shop comprises of a Farm Shop – including Butcher, Delicatessen, food shop, Creamery Café, production kitchens & Pigg’s Playbarn.  It is part of Lord & Lady Hamilton’s Apley Estate & was launched five years ago to promote the Estate and best local food producers.  Apley Farm Shop is now a leading retailer of fresh & local food & an exciting destination for local people & tourists. 
Lord & Lady Hamilton’s vision is for Apley Farm Shop to establish its position as a leading food business in Shropshire & an innovative & exciting destination for families.  It must develop into a profitable & complimentary part of the Apley Estate’s business.

About this role

This is the key management position with the opportunity to shape the direction & future of Apley Farm Shop. Your role is to improve both the visitor/shopper experience and the commercial performance of our business.
Your primary focus will be to lead, motivate and enthuse your team to develop the existing business and also to promote & develop new ideas and partnerships to take the business through to its next level of growth. The owners of the business, Lord & Lady Hamilton passionately believe in Apley and so you’ll have their full support. 
 
About you

You’ll have a track record in performance management & leadership skills in a retail and food service environment and you will be able to demonstrate all of the role requirements at interview
You will have a proven track record of commercial success, you’ll need to demonstrate exemplary leadership skills and experience of managing diverse teams, setting targets and direction and motivating others to follow. You won’t just tell people what to do, you’ll be hands on – you will coach, mentor, enthuse and inspire ensuring that all staff and stakeholders are fully behind the vision for Apley Farm Shop

You will need to know how to manage and develop budgets, be careful with spending and always looking to maximise value from any financial commitments you make. 

This is a challenging position – we are looking for someone unique who has the experience, drive and expertise to lead the diverse parts of Apley Farm Shop in retail, customer service, food production & our playbarn as well as liaising with and developing stronger business relationships will our suppliers, concessionaires and other businesses based at Apley Farm Shop. 

To be selected for interview you will need to demonstrate evidence of:

  • A passion for local & excellent quality food, food retail & excellent customer service
  • Extensive & wide ranging experience in retail management, ideally food retail
  • Experience of food service & food production management
  • A solid track record of improving commercial results
  • a record of developing a business and seeing a growth in profitability. 
  • Supporting your team to manage the business effectively every day
  • maximising sales opportunities and managing expenditure to ensure you maximise value for money 
  • Identifying from financial & operational data where success has been delivered and where there is scope for better performance. 
  • Maximising the use of IT resources to help your staff and yourself to understand the business better
  • An experienced leader with a demonstrable track record of delivering results
  • Proactive, progressive leadership creating a happy and confident team.  
  • Developing and supporting your staff to maximise their potential 
  • Developing an enterprise that sees strong customer satisfaction & ensures repeat business.
  • Bringing ideas and plans that develop the business and drive forward our customer numbers.
