New opportunity for an experienced Buyer of General Merchandise in the West Midlands

This company boasts a modern open plan head office where you will have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues from impressive backgrounds like blue-chip companies and the Big 5 Supermarkets.

Your new role
Within your new role you will be required to negotiate and manage the purchase and supply of general merchandise products for the business. Examples of categories covered by this role include Home, Kitchen, Pet, Garden, and Stationery product. You will be driving the range, delivering value for the customer and increasing sales and profitability for the company. Supporting you in the role will be a team of direct reports of Assistant and Junior Buyers. You will work closely with Design, QA, and Marketing and as a unit you will deliver new season ranges and monitor their performance and trade the range.

What you'll need to success
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated buying experience in a high volume discount environment with a strong knowledge of the discount market. Experience of understanding Suppliers and effective negotiation skills and being able to travel is important as Far East trips will feature in this role. You will have excellent market knowledge and be able to have one eye on your competitors, completing regular competitive shops. You will be supported by junior members of the team, so people management and experience of developing a team will be beneficial.
