Commercial Manager – Baking Products

£35-50,000 Basic, Bonus, Company Car, Company Share Option Scheme

Our Client are an expanding supplier of baking products to the Retail channel.

They are now looking for a Commercial Manager to spearhead the company’s growth and future success. This role will be part of the senior management team, and the jobholder should be able to help set the strategic direction for the company, as well as taking care of the day to day functioning of the sales and marketing team.

The main function of the role will be to take charge of, and manage, a team of four people ( being two BDMs, one KAM, and one product manager ). The product manager is a stand-alone marketing person who will report into the Commercial Manager. There is no need for candidates to have had any experience of marketing, as the product manager has a good handle on this side of things.

The job holder will spend 80% of their time on man management issues and strategic company work, but will also have a small portfolio of his/her own accounts ( 3 to 4 distributors here in the UK and a couple in Europe ). There’s no need for any export experience as this will be a minor part of the job.

This is what they’ll be looking for ;

. Somebody with a couple of year’s man management experience ( ideally more ).

. Experience of selling into independent / owner operator independent businesses of some kind. This should be ideally into some kind of shops ( cake shops or bakery shops would be good but any kind of food outlet would be just fine; this includes selling food into cafes / tearooms and garden centres or hotels as long as they are owner operated ).

. Must have sold ( any ) food product.

. Experience of selling to distributors would be a small bonus, but is far from essential.

. Marketing knowledge would be a small bonus, but definitely not essential

Location – approx. half of the job holder’s time will be spent in the office ( North West ) and the other half out on the road with different members of the sales team. The employment contract will say it’s an office based role so the job holder will pay for their own travelling expenses to and from the office. Candidates must therefore live in the North West region

Remuneration - £35k to £50k Basic plus bonus plus car. There is also a share option scheme in the parent company.
