Trading Director (Wholesale / Retail)

Blakemore Wholesale also runs a national food distribution service which serves delivered customers across the UK via an 84,000 sq. ft. distribution depot at Apex II in Great Bridge, West Midlands. The division employs 700 people.

Hours: 40 Hours per week, Monday - Friday, 9am - 5.30pm + flexible

ROLE: 

The Trading Director / Purchasing Director will effectively manage a team to maximise sales, cash margin, percentage gross profit and revenue from suppliers, creation and management of company pricing strategy at wholesale and retail levels, management of group stock holding and planogram and range selection for Blakemore Wholesale.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
a) Contribute to the production of departmental annual sales, profit and supplier income budgets.
b) Identify areas of underperformance, overspend and implement an action plan to rectify. Deliver annual sales, profit and supplier income in line with agreed departmental budgets.
c) Ensure delivery of annual range reviews and the production of category strategy documentation to help with the achievement of sales and margin targets within the department. Ensure that Joint Business Plans (JBP’s) with all key suppliers are in place, to include promotional plans, target turnover and supplier income using the agreed department documentation.
d) Where necessary support the senior trading team with negotiating favourable buying terms with suppliers. Set product pricing policies both at Wholesale and retail level.
e) Ensure the control of all departmental administrative systems and procedures. Demonstrate excellent supplier management techniques. Demonstrate excellent levels of cross departmental working to include providing appropriate information to and attending meetings.
f) Interpreting appropriate market research activity, and recommending actions for improvement. Creating open and effective relationships with key customers and suppliers, demonstrating excellent communication skills.
g) Manage the team to ensure customer service levels remain at 97.5% or above. Manage the team to ensure stock targets are met. Overseeing direct reports in relation to all aspects of performance and development in line with the leadership competencies. Ensure the senior team manage in line with company policies.
h) Supplier income level delivered in line with agreed targets. Stock holding to be maintained within agreed targets. Pricing policy to be directed and delivered allowing for achievement of sale and profit targets.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE: 
a) Demonstrable Wholesale / Retail and Buying experience. Strong negotiation skills.
b) Experience managing costs and resources.
c) Working knowledge of Microsoft packages.
d) Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and build strong working relationships.
e) Ability to produce accurate work whilst working within agreed timescales. Ability to motivate, influence and develop direct reports.
f) Ability to use logical and creative thinking to solve problems and make decisions.
g) Strong organisational and planning skills.
h) Customer focussed and understands the importance of this to the business.
