Graduate

Many students are unsure as to which career route they should take as graduation looms. Unless you have chosen to study an Agriculture or Food related degree you won’t necessarily have considered working in the world of Fresh Produce. Yet you couldn’t work in a more exciting and fast paced industry where the opportunities are endless.

So many people take for granted how our food gets on our plate. Take a banana for example; have you considered that in order to get a perfectly ripe banana to the end consumer it has already had to go through a growing process which will have involved a technical team, a quality team, a ripening team, an operations team, a commercial team, a procurement team and a logistics team, all involved in producing a banana that we just peel and eat!

Fresh produce is grown not only in the UK but all over the world, to ensure that we, as consumers, get an uninterrupted 12 month supply. From lettuce in Spain, grapes in South Africa, bananas in Ecuador, Avocadoes from Peru, and Blueberries from Chili. Many opportunities in the industry could involve international travel, which is fantastic incentive for someone wanting to experience different parts of the world perhaps.
