Having been established for over 100 years, this family-owned company holds a market-leading position in the design and distribution of over 5,000 specialist products to over 5,000 stockists globally. Products are sold through a variety of channels including grocery multiples, independent retailers, online and specialist distributors. With over 230 employees and shipping over 26 million items annually, it continues to lead the market through its creativity, outstanding quality and service and has doubled sales within the last six years to its current level of £55m.
It now seeks a high calibre sales professional who will be capable of spearheading further sales growth and enabling the company to capitalise on significant opportunities which exist across all sales channels.
The Challenge
To assume leadership of the UK Field Sales and Telesales Teams, developing and implementing a sales strategy which delivers profitable sales growth and consolidates the company’s position as UK market leader.
To build and maintain effective working relationships with key customer decision-makers, spending time in the field with your teams and gaining a thorough understanding of market trends and activities.
To provide motivational and inspirational leadership to your teams and ensure that they constantly strive to achieve and exceed stretching performance targets.
To work closely with the customer base to ensure that the brand’s values are upheld, whilst delivering sustainable growth through continuous innovation and the delivery of outstanding quality and service.
The Candidate
You should already be operating at Sales Director/Head of Sales level and must be able to demonstrate how you have delivered profitable sales growth through your leadership of the sales function.
You are likely to have a good knowledge of a wide variety of distribution channels, together with first-hand experience of the opportunities and challenges presented by online retailers.
Experience of Selective Distribution Agreements would be particularly beneficial as would previous experience gained in a competitive market sector where you have had to defend your market-leading position against low cost competitors.
You should have developed and implemented a successful sales strategy based on your knowledge of the industry and market trends yet will be equally comfortable when operating in a hands-on capacity and interacting with customers and your teams.
Whilst we are willing to consider candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds, experience in the FMCG sector would be beneficial and a track record of selling to independent high street retailers would be particularly advantageous.
With proven experience of strategy planning and execution and having acted on longer-term strategic issues, you will be capable of contributing to the overall direction of the business.
