Trading Controller - £60-70,000 basic + bonus + car allowance + family health cover

Our client, based in North London, a multi-award winning International FMCG Wholesaler, predominantly of tobacco, alcohol, soft drinks, confectionery, grocery, household goods & toiletries is seeking a talented Trading Controller as part of their ongoing strategic expansion.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for maximising sales & profit for the business across all trading activities. Key duties will include:

Managing the Trading Function

 Manage & lead the team of buyers ensuring all revenue streams are maximised.

 Implement effective coaching, guidance & training for the buying team.

 Ensure that the business plan is constructed and effectively communicated.

 Ensure that buyers’ performances are monitored against the agreed business plan.

Negotiation

 Ensure that competitive cost prices are negotiated with all suppliers.

 Ensure that cash profit is continually optimised.

 Ensure that the most cost effective suppliers are selected for supply to the company.

 Ensure that inbound supplier monies are negotiated: terms, advertising monies, discounts, retro payments, free stock, tower ends, bay branding etc.

 Ensure that all aspects of each depot are monetised for maximum revenue generation.

 Ensure that an effective programme of promotions is implemented.

 Ensure that there are commercial business plans & relationships in place for all major suppliers.

Product Sourcing, Ranges & Categories

 Ensure that the range architecture and selection is most appropriate for profitable trading.

 Ensure that the range is productive. Continually eliminate poor selling products.

 Ensure the effective deployment of new product development.

 Ensure the identification and exploitation of new categories.

 Ensure that product is sourced for special orders and/or particular markets. Particularly bulk trading & exports.

 Ensure that the range is grouped and sub grouped into logical & manageable categories.

 Ensure that the depots are merchandised into logical and manageable categories. 

Selling Prices & Promotions

 Ensure that depot sales are maximised through regular checking that the selling prices are continually competitive versus the prevailing market & the competitive set.

 Ensure that there is a programme promotions in place to drive sales. To include the effective use of promotions, trade events & promotions.

 Work closely with the operators to ensure the effective implementation of the promotions in the depots.

 Ensure the effective use of customer pricing schemes including SOP delivery pricing platforms, online pricing & Retail Club prices.

Stock Availability & Inventory Management

 Ensure that the most effective suppliers are sourced re consistent stock availability.

 Ensure that stock availability is continually monitored & followed up.

 Ensure that inventory efficiency is optimised - stock holding versus sales.

 Ensure that the optimum buying routines are implemented to deliver the most efficient inventory management.

Administration & Record Keeping.

 Ensure that file maintenance is kept up to date and managed to enable effective deployment of buying routines, scanning, customer invoicing & shelf-edge labels in the depots.

 Ensure that effective supplier records are kept.

 Ensure that supplier payment terms are effectively managed and that Accounts Payable is able to match invoices and pay on a timely basis.

 Ensure that sourcing records are kept (where appropriate) for an audit trail of due diligence.

To apply for this role you should be able to demonstrate that you have the following attributes:

 At least three years experience in FMCG wholesale sector with proven success.

 A good working knowledge & experience of the wholesale trade.

 Experience of trading in the grey market.

 Experience & skill in recruiting, managing & motivating people.

 Excellent negotiation, selling & communication skills.

 Highly numerate & literate

 Self-motivated, committed & efficient.

 Good at collaboration and relationship building.

 Strong will & desire to succeed.

On offer is a basic salary in the region of £60-70,000 plus attractive bonus, car allowance and other benefits.
