PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To grow and drive a small category or subcategory through clear vision and trading actions. Maximise TTV, increase conversion and PPU and optimise selection in line with category targets. Work with Category Manager and/or Head of Category to identify and prioritise strategic initiatives and drive their delivery within the team and through cross functional influence. Act as category expert on market, competitors and product innovation; communicate this information within the team and across the wider company.
WHAT THE ROLE ENTAILS
● Drive growth for the category in accordance with the business plan, delivering against agreed KPIs to include TTV, conversion and PPU
● Support the Category Manager and Head of Category to deliver and plan the wider category strategy, identifying, developing and executing category specific initiatives
● Represent the category within the company on a crossfunctional basis. Champion the category for Marketing and sitewide initiatives
● Work with the relevant Account Management team to support Partners in delivering our ambitions, by recommending trends and identifying rising stars
● Work with the category Merchandiser in daily, weekly and ad hoc trade reporting to communicate category performance and identify actions in response. Follow through on delivery of actions
● Work with the Visual Merchandiser to optimise category promotion, by merchandising own category promotional space with appropriate products / themes and by recommending sitewide activities such as email and homepage. Recommend collections in line with category opportunities
● Lead the category specific Photography process and work with Visual Merchandiser to ensure appropriate products are chosen and that results are suitable for category priorities
● Act as the expert on the relevant industry, delivering regular competitor analysis on product, strategy, marketing and corporate initiatives, and communicating this across the business
● Identify range expansion opportunities within the market and tailor approach to drive product expansion and innovation within these areas via Account Management and/or New Business
● Work with the New Business Manager as a sounding board for category specific decisions
● Foster a collaborative working approach with other Category Managers and Junior Category Managers to ensure consistency of approach and mutual benefit of processes and developments
● Other projects as designated
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
● Strong track record in a commercial role in ecommerce
● Experience in at least one existing product category, with the ability to apply knowledge to a different product area if required
● Analytical thinker, organised, with strong attention to detail
● Highly numerical, with excellent reporting and excel skills. Google Analytics preferred
● Highly responsive, able to take initiative, multi task and adapt to a fast trading environment
● Strong commercial awareness and passion for the category and trading climate
● Awareness and interest in the challenges and opportunities that small businesses face in the retail market
● Excellent communication and presentation skills (written, verbal and visual)
● Ability to work to targets and tight deadlines
● A naturally collaborative style
