Ben & Jerry’s opened their first scoop shop in 1978 in America, coming to the UK in 1994.  Based in Burlington, Vermont, the business has grown over the last 37 years to become one of the best known and loved brands for ice-cream.

Due to a new strategic direction an exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced Retail Marketing Manager (Europe) to join part of a brand new, Europe-based retail team for Ben & Jerry’s.  

Expanding from the in-home side of the business, Ben & Jerry’s are looking to build and grow their retail presence through scoop shops, flagship stores and franchises.

From that renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont, to far-off places with names we sometimes can’t even pronounce, the journey that began in 1978 with 2 guys and… the ice cream business they built as LEGENDARY as the ice cream is euphoric!

So what are we looking for?

We need a creative and imaginative marketing manager with a strong retail background to lead the entire retail marketing across Europe, who can work in partnership with each country’s business leader to deliver consistent and innovative marketing campaigns which will support the growth of the retail market for Ben & Jerry’s.  

This is an international job and will require some travel throughout the UK and Europe, with some US travel to the Head Office possible.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their previous success with large, international marketing campaigns.  

We need someone who can work within their budget to create unique and outstanding campaigns which deliver the Ben & Jerry’s experience, in terms of our customer service, our brand reputation and our social mission.  

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently to create quirky and brand appropriate marketing projects which reflect the new retail market.

They will also be able to demonstrate how they could work across different cultures and countries throughout Europe and adapt to cultural differences.

A creative free thinker who isn’t afraid to suggest and try new ideas is essential and your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be evident in your work.  

Pressure and deadlines won’t detract from your high standards and you will easily work to influence a variety of stakeholders within many different social settings.

The ability to clearly identify target audiences and create appealing campaigns is essential, as is someone who is social media savvy.

Day-to-day the successful candidate will be accountable and responsible for the retail marketing of the brand throughout Europe, working within the Ben & Jerry's structure and the Unilever company.  

The retail business should be grown and developed whilst remaining profitable in part through strong marketing and advertising, measurable by KPI and business scorecard delivery.

This will need an entrepreneurial flair and a creative mind along with a strong desire to be environmentally aware.
