Required.  Buyers for a Northern Based Leading Retailer.

What are they looking for?

With defined investment into key areas of the business, they now wish to appoint a select number of buyers for categories such as Produce, Frozen & Drinks who are empowered, high performing and able to work cohesively with their buying team colleagues for the long term benefit of their customers. In a nutshell, they are looking for you to develop and deliver category strategy in line with their broader category plans in order to deliver sales, profit targets and maximize business competitiveness through effective sourcing of products and development of key supplier relationships.

The Role Itself:

They want you to conduct effective negotiations with suppliers (in accordance with the GSCOP) and key stakeholders to maximise buying terms so that budgeted are met and delivered.

• Lead the team to develop insight driven range across your categories and take corrective action in order to reduce waste and maximise sales targets for the category area.

• Ensure daily management to list and de-list products in order to take account of local product purchase preferences so that wastage targets are met

• Manage the categories so that legal, policy, processes and guidelines are delivered within the regulatory compliance requirements

• Plan and deliver competitive profitable promotions in line with category strategy and shopping missions, so that sales plan opportunities are maximised

• By role modelling  lead, coach and develop direct reports so that objectives are delivered, performance is achieved and future potential is identified with development plans in place. To create culture of continuous improvement and effective challenge.

• Create and develop effective relationships with key internal stakeholders across the Group so that the benefits of cross functional relationships are realised i.e. cross functional agreement of forecasts

Who are you?

A natural leader and motivator of your team

• Great buying/commercial negotiation experience and a excellent knowledge of Fresh Produce (or other affiliated sectors) in order to define the strategy and support the team to deliver

• Experience of leading complex/large scale categories and developing category strategy

• Relationship building and complex conversations across Blue Chip and key suppliers

• Experience of other Retail Functions and Retailers is desirable

• Experience of project management and delivering to a plan

• Experience of working in a fast paced environment

• Awareness of compliance and regulatory requirements including GSCOP
