Category Development Manager, Percy Fox

Percy Fox & Co is the scale and branded division of the Diageo Wines Europe (DWE), which is part of the wider Diageo business with a current NSV of c£120m.  

Percy Fox & Co. is one of the largest wine companies in the UK. Brand owner of UK’s leading wine brand, Blossom Hill and Piat d’Or.  It is also distributor in GB of [yellow tail].  

Our ambition is to increase our sales & market share and for Blossom Hill to become the world’s favourite wine. 

Blossom Hill is the second biggest Diageo brand in the UK whilst [yellow tail] is one of the UKs fastest growing wine brands. 
 
Purpose of Role

There are three main goals for this job

1. Category Leadership – Utilise market & shopper insight to provide strategies & tactics to help deliver mutual growth for our retail partners & Percy Fox

2. Help Sell – Deliver our sales team industry leading category focused rationale for listings & distribution increases across our product portfolio

3. Market Information –Ensure that the business is provided with market insight & accessible data to understand market trends, performance drivers & innovation opportunities

This role manages the category development relationships with a number of customers across different channels.  

The person will build strong category knowledge to assist retailers in understanding market dynamics, perfect range coverage & shopper focused merchandising solutions.  

Our ambition is to demonstrate category leadership within Rosé & USA wines and expertise in the growing Australian & Aromatised Wine categories

This role therefore encompasses focus & delivery of the following platforms;

1. Driving improvements to range & merchandising based on robust Shopper insight.

2. In depth analysis, understanding & communication of market dynamics.

3. Creating sales and value for us and our customers by gaining fair share of space for our market leading product portfolio.

4. Excellent Customer collaboration & engagement.

The role also includes using customer knowledge, brand understanding and category & shopper data / insight to build & deliver compelling stories / presentations with Cat Dev / Shopper & Customer Marketing colleagues to increase our share of sales.
 
Qualifications and experience required  

  • Highly analytical and data literate, able to manipulate large & complex datasets while avoiding analysis paralysis
  • Understand and evaluate the impact of their category recommendations
  • Result orientated
  • Commercial acumen
  • Strong FMCG experience (Cat Dev/Insights an advantage) 
  • Degree level preferred
  • WSET / wine knowledge is not a barrier for right candidate as wine courses can be arranged as part of the induction 
  • Proven track record of success
  • Extremely strong analytical skills and good on MS Office (ppt and xls)
  • Familiarity with Nielsen Answers an advantage
  • Acute problem solving and process thinking
  • Category Development experience an advantage, category understanding essential 
  • Good understanding of shopper behaviour & drivers 
  • Passion and ability to discern and use shopper, consumer and customer insights
