Buyer/Selector

Hornby, the UK’s leading British model railway brand are currently seeking an experienced Buyer / Selector to join our team and help develop and further cement the organisation.

Would you like to work for a Company whose vision is to be the most successful model, hobby and collectable company in the world? If so, we would like to hear from you.

Responsible for the commercial success or failure of the ranges that they are allocated, it will be your responsibility to select and develop the ranges from the research team output. You will plan the channels to which each product will be sold and identify the pricing hierarchy that encourages full consumer engagement in the broad spectrum of products we offer.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to);

  • Develop overall brand strategy
  • Prepare CAPEX proposals to support range planning process
  • Select product to create the range
  • Development of item level range plans
  • Review profitability of range
  • Agree grow/hold/decline/exit strategies for products/categories
  • Monitor competitor activity
  • Review, and enhance our product mix
  • Weekly review of performance to plan
  • Weekly review of stock levels
  • Focus on Sales, Stock, and Profit
  • Adhoc commercial analysis to reinforce the right behaviour of the brands

Person Specification

  • High level of business finance commercial skills
  • Computer literacy (word, excel, powerpoint)
  • Clean, clear, and concise simple communication
  • A real team player
  • Delivers to deadlines
  • Confidence to manage, and negotiate on behalf of the company
  • Confidence to make a decision, and then make it happen
  • Commitment to not settling for good enough – we must be the best

The role will require travel for business purposes, so the candidate should possess a full UK driving license and be prepared to stay away from home as required.
