Business Development Manager

North West England / East Midlands

The Person

You will have at least 2 years Sales experience within the HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical or Building Products markets with a strong understanding of Specification Sales and the Wholesale/Merchant routes to market.

The Role

The Business Development Manager will work in a defined geographical area, with responsibility for identifying new business opportunities, and achieving sales targets at the agreed margins.

This role is a combination of Business Development and Specification Management so you will be expected to evaluate and reflect upon business development, sales and marketing initiatives to ensure that value for money is achieved and sales are increased at a level which allows the company to exceed its goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand the market and legislation relevant to the market sector
  • Gain specification of products within the relevant market sector
  • Coordinate activities with all parties associated through the supply chain including specifiers, contractors, merchants and wholesalers
  • Gain specification by way of project/product opportunities for private developers, POD manufacturers the MOD and others
  • Identify new product and service opportunities which will grow sales or margin.
  • Manage the existing product portfolio to maximise sales and margin
  • Take responsibility for profitability of sales
  • Control product price points throughout the supply chain
  • Work with Category Managers to agree and develop the product and distribution strategy
  • Work with the wider sales team in sharing information and growing sales
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, specifiers, key decision makers, end-users and consultants
  • Complete relevant reports and manage a meaningful working database of all commercial opportunities.

Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience working within the social housing or care sector
  • Proven experience of growing profitable sales
  • Solution sales experience within Housing/Commercial sectors
  • A technical background or strong technical aptitude
  • A degree or other recognised industry qualification
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Commercially/financially astute
  • Good Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills
  • Excellent Presentation skills
  • A relationship builder, networker and team player
  • Energy, drive, enthusiasm, keen to make an impact and show abilities

Salary Package

£35k-£40k basic, 10%-15% bonus, Car, Pension and 25 days holiday.
