Calling all Marketers!

My client is a well-established and award winning brewery, whose portfolio includes a wide variety of beers, in particular cask ales, which are recognised throughout the UK. They boast an account base of many wholesalers and brewers, as well supply to most major pubs and pub groups. A key part of their strategy is to enhance the quality and quantity of the marketing effort behind their beer brands while also taking the lead in the marketing efforts behind their pub estate. This is why they are now looking for a full time, dedicated Brand Manager for the business. You will be their sole marketing person, so they need someone who is an enthusiastic self-starter, and is passionate about being ‘hands on’ in the role.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the development and implementation of marketing programs to help drive the company’s overall commercial performance; working closely with the sales team, the pub team, brewery team, their off trade bottle agents, and outside marketing service agencies. This is an exciting opportunity to have a crucial impact and strategic input into the marketing function. Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Developing and implementing an annual marketing plan for the business and its associated channels (on premise—owned and third party; and off-premise)
  • Monitoring brand performance; establishing and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) for the brand, especially as they relate to social media and the consumer
  • Taking ownership of PR, the website and social media agenda and activity; driving creativity, presence and performance across all of these important channels
  • Working with the sales team to ensure that the right quality and level of support is provided across key areas such as sales presentations, POS material, glassware, supporting merchandise, etc.
  • Working with the pub team by providing marketing tools that help them maximise the performance of our pub estate, both in terms of attracting consumers to the pub and giving them a great experience once there
  • Championing the company’s webshop such that it becomes a key means of consumer interest and fulfilment
  • Motivating our external agencies, where used, to ensure high quality ideas, output and execution
  • Management of the marketing budget which will be modest in the first instance but which should grow in the coming years

They are looking for a degree educated person with at least 3 years of marketing experience demonstrating a good understanding of the on trade and off trade channels. Drinks industry experience is desirable. You need to be willing to get their hands dirty and will not shy away from a challenge. The ability to quickly establish trust, rapport and strong relationships with customers and clients is key. You must be a hands on ‘multi-tasker’ who can turn their hand to a range of activities from everyday marketing tasks to the more involved and complex projects. Having a strong experience of social media is key, and you should be keen to be directly involved in these channels. Demonstrating consumer and customer/trade understanding will add to your success, as well as possessing a positive ‘can do’ attitude and drive.

Although you need not to have been working in the beer industry before, per say, you should show a passion for the industry and want to develop and learn.
