Based in Duns in the Scottish Borders, Farne Salmon are looking to recruit the very best Senior National Account Manager to join their team and manage one of their biggest and most prestigious retail accounts in the UK

Role description

As Senior National Account Manager, you will work very closely with the Account Director to foster a ‘customer intimate' approach with one of Farne Salmon's largest retail customers. Based in Duns, you will also travel to the Warminster site and to customer locations to market the company's products. You will focus on own label sales but complement this with a range of branded lines, ensuring positive and profitable development of your business. Due to the importance of your retail account to Farne Salmon, this challenging and highly exciting role will have a very high profile with interaction at board level. Your key accountabilities as Senior National Account Manager will be:

  • Full P&L responsibility and National Head Office sales and negotiation with one of Farne Salmon's major retail customers at all levels and cross functionally;
  • Annual Joint Business Planning and execution, with implementation of 3-5 year supply partnerships where possible;
  • To be responsible for budget planning & profit target achievement, by effective price setting and profit margin control;
  • To develop and implement a plan for product and category enhancement in close collaboration with Category Marketing and NPD colleagues. You will utilise the retailer's own data together with market data and market research to build compelling category plans, growing the businesses together;
  • To work closely with the UK Forecast Manager to maintain weekly and monthly forecasts;
  • To work closely across Total Supply Chain and with customer supply chains, to ensure accurate forecasting, industry-leading service levels, and collaborative management of your customers' availability, sales and waste;
  • To monitor general situation on stock/sales through liaison with Planning/Supply Chain, to ensure continuity of and avoid "problem stock";
  • To have lots of interaction with sourcing and technical departments to secure suitable raw material and product for ongoing lines and NPD. Liaising internally on the development of existing sources in line with retailer sourcing policies;
  • To analyse, report, and implement action plans against weekly and monthly sales performance and forecast accuracy, feeding into the periodic board reports;
  • Management of one Direct Report

Who we're looking for

To be successful for interview, you will ideally hold a degree and it is imperative that you have a proven track record of post qualification experience of managing a major National Account, preferably within a chilled category. You will also be able to talk in detail about your experience of working within a category management led business and whilst it would be advantageous that you have people management experience, this is not essential. Given the importance of reporting in this role, you will need to be highly IT literate, especially with Excel and Powerpoint. You will be a natural people person with excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with colleagues and customers alike. You will display a tremendous amount of resilience and be able to work independently with a high level of autonomy. As Senior National Account Manager, you will be driven by achieving positive results and be able to display a proven track record of adopting a very entrepreneurial and “hands on” approach with your customers to ensure that you are very responsive to customer and business needs. It is also important that you can see the bigger picture at all times and can adopt a pragmatic approach to solving problems. You must also have a full UK driving licence and be willing to travel within the UK (to customers and between sites) and abroad as required.

About our client

Farne Salmon & Trout Ltd, is based in the Borders of Scotland, 45 miles south of Edinburgh and 15 miles west of Berwick upon Tweed. The Duns factory is now amongst the biggest smoked salmon facilities in Europe and they have grown from a staff of 6 in 1982 to become the biggest private sector employer in the Borders with a core workforce of over 600 people. As well as Smoked Salmon, Farne Salmon also produces a growing range of Added Value products, based on or containing salmon, shellfish and other fish varieties. It sources fish, mainly salmon, from several geographical origins. Being part of a major international seafood group has advantages such as buying power and group synergies - these, along with capital investment, will help grow Farne Salmon into being the most efficient producer of smoked salmon in the UK, possibly Europe. No direct or third party applications will be accepted whatsoever and instead will be forwarded to our recruiting partner, Matthew Clark, at Michael Page.

Where specific UK qualifications are required we will take into account overseas equivalents. All third party applications will be forwarded to Michael Page
