As Retail Development Manager , you will work closely with the General Manager to identify and create new customer opportunities, as well as offering targeted sales solutions to existing customer groups.
Focusing on high-potential customers, you will manage a portfolio of customers, spending time in the field as well as in branch. Visiting existing and potential new customers to develop sales and margin - up-selling and cross-selling to suit customer needs.
With a proven track record in building incremental sales and margin across multiple sales solutions (cash & carry, delivery, internet), and an adaptive, solution-focused sales approach - you will be a fundamental part of the store sales strategy and instrumental in supporting the store to achieve their sales targets.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Creating a business sales plan which focuses clearly on the targeting of both new and existing customers.
Attracting new business and growing existing business through developing professional relationships, personal visits and proactively selling solutions across the retail category
Proactively managing new, top spending, developing, declining and inactive customers, ensuring a balanced approach across these customer groups.
Developing and maintaining a detailed and intimate knowledge of the local area, market and competition.
Utilising research and statistical information to identify business and customer potential and use this information to maximise effectiveness and deliver KPIs
Liaising between customers, store team and store management to ensure a fit for purpose range, excellent customer service and repeat customer visits.
Acting as a role model for customer service, sales and the Company Values
Establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with store colleagues in order to maximise sales opportunities.
Formulating call plans, that maximise the effective use of own time and deliver the greatest Return on Investment.
Maintaining an up to date knowledge of products, key lines for all customer groups, the Booker proposition and competitor activity.
Ensuring that all communications channels are being used and that new customers accounts, re-activations are sent to customers in a timely manner.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Proven experience in business development and account management within a food-oriented field sales environment.
Ability to acquire new customers across all customer groups
Resilience when faced with a “no” from a customer.
Tenacity to drive sales.
Negotiation skills.
Ability to learn new processes
Excellent time management
