Job Title: Agricultural Commodity Purchasing Manager

Sector: Consumer / FMCG

Location:  West London

Recruiting on behalf of a branded FMCG food manufacturer who is looking to appoint an Agricultural Commodity Purchasing Manager to manage the procurement of Wheat, Flour, Cereals and Seeds & Spice, maintain & develop the supplier base, drive Strategic relationships and develop and execute material group strategies. The role holder will report into the Group Procurement Controller responsible for the purchase of Ingredients and Commodities portfolios. This is a key portfolio with some of the key strategic material for the group.

The Category Manager will be responsible for a spend of circa £55 million across all UK, North Europe, Saudi Arabia & Nigeria. The role operates within a very volatile global market where the buyer will need to ensure risk management tools are in place to cap our exposure to changing market dynamics. You will have the responsibility to deliver key initiatives in line with overall Procurement objectives. In this role you will work closely with manufacturing sites, supply chain and central technical stakeholders to ensure the delivery of key material group projects & activities.

Key responsibilities for this role include -

Negotiate supply agreements for Flour & Cereals

Implement Cost Reduction Initiatives

Manage the supply base - Issue resolution etc

Develop a clear understanding of the market fundamentals on a global scale, taking into account the impacts and trends in other agri-commodities. Cover recommendations to be made within an approved Risk Management framework.

Development of effective  Risk Management strategy that will :-
a) separate the commodity market risk from the supply / conversion risk
b) ensure the commodity element is hedged effectively to provide a balanced approach, whereby good opportunistic cover decisions are combined with good hedging practice that reduces pricing volatility to the business.

Implementation of hedging cover decisions through the use of futures, derivatives & OTC products derivatives & OTC products.

Lead and develop 2 direct reports

Essential Criteria

More than 4 years experience of buying & managing commodity/ingredient portfolio.

Demonstrate a desire to succeed with proven expertise in driving project autonomously.

Excellent communication, organisational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent negotiation skills, Supplier Relationship Management and Market research

Experience of budget management , change management , project management, Strategic Planning and financial reporting

Bachelor degree in Business or Economics areas
