This is a well-established branded household named business, which have year on year excelled in the marketplace through a focus on consumer insight and strategic brand development. The business is well invested, profitable and has excellent relationships with customers, due to their focus on quality products and innovation. Operating within a matrix led divisional Company structure has meant that their product offering is highly extensive whilst offering UK leading Brands with regional heritage to boot. With some of the most recognisable Brands within the Retail Space they serve, they are at the forefront of strong organic growth across several categories & product areas. Having experienced strong results, they are now seeking to appoint an BUD  in order to champion their future growth plans.

The Role

As a the BUD you will be tasked with driving the full P&L management of leading Customers whilst also leading a Team of Commercial Managers. The category in which the role operates brings both challenges of leading NPD and Category initiatives as well as "tough" commodity pricing dynamics, all of which requires a real “Intellectually Stretching” environment where strength of character is key. The key drivers of the roles are follows:

  • Ability to Network & Influence throughout the Retail Matrix Space (Supply, Marketing, Finance etc)
  • Full P&L visibility not just at gross margin level but at ‘Contribution to Profit’ level – understanding influence on the whole business and the wider impact of commercial decisions
  • Naturally confident in dealing with peers and cross functional colleagues, as well as dealing with the Executive Board members internally and Senior Management externally
  • Ability to be able to reason and rationalise complex business scenarios; have the ability to manage the needs and demands of both internal strategies and external requirements by being able to demonstrate the balance of both.
  • Application of Category Management and the practical approach and actions; influence the necessary strategies to deliver category/profit growth by delivery to the consumer needs
  • Negotiate annual Joint Business Plans (JBPs)
  • Drive distribution of existing and new products
  • Manage product mix to maximise margin
  • Manage effective communication of NPD & Category Solutions

Leadership

  • Manage a Team of 5+ Commercial Managers & Support Staff
  • Be willing to make the "tough" people decisions that make the difference to the long-term success of the business
  • Coach, Develop and Stretch the Commercial Managers
  • Establish Training & Development Programmes
  • Show the potential to be able to step up to a Sales Director in c2 Years times

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will have gained strong experience in Leading Brand or Own Label/High Value Customer Accounts within the Consumer Channel (E.G. Household Good, Electrical, White Goods etc). Additionally the client is also willing to consider dynamic candidates who could be at a slightly more Junior level, but you must be clearly leading your “peer group” and be ready for the greatest challenge of your career to date. A "Branded" perspective and Strong Relationship skills are a must, as this role is one of the most important within the Commercial Team.
