As brand owners to numerous category leading food brands and with a UK turnover in excess of £2 billion our client is has an envious relationship with all the UK grocery multiples. Due to a recent internal promotion they are now looking searching for a new addition to their Commercial Planning team.

As Commercial Planning Manager you will cross functionally lead all head office departments and processes on a select category / brand. Owning the Business Plan along with Pricing & Promotions Strategy, you will guide account managers on customer risks and opportunities and help to control these. Acting as a trouble shooter for a brand / category leadership team. The role is about understanding consequences of actions throughout the whole business, contingency planning up and down the organisation from Finance Director right through to Supply Chain. Working closely with customer marketing to ensure brand plans are deliverable and relevant to the customer. Challenging the norms, driving a longer term category and brand agenda into the business. Translating these brand and category plans into outstanding performance.

Working within commercial planning allows individuals to develop their line management skills as effectively they are cross functionally managing different departments at varying levels. In a typical FMCG management role this is something candidates are not likely to have access to as they tend to be a lot more externally focused. Typically the next move for a commercial planner would be a leadership role.

This role is very internally focused role. Candidates can come from a variety of backgrounds (Account management, Category Marketing or Grocery Retail Buying) however all need to demonstrate high commercial awareness and wider business knowledge. Successful candidates need to be highly numerate, great influencers and can drive retailer needs into the business.
