The Business

One of the UK’s largest own label and branded businesses, our client 2 Sisters operate across, chilled, ambient, frozen and ambient categories. Within this, the Protein Division is looking to create a ‘Centre for Category Excellence a Despite’. This is part of across-the-board investment in this profitable division, which accounts for over half of the group’s £1.5bn turnover. The new ‘Centre for Category Excellence’ is part of the continued professionalization of the business and the strengthening of category as a core function. With an increased focus on customer engagement, they are now looking to facilitate a closer alignment of their business with the customer. The Role

As a Senior Category Manager for M&S, you will be responsible for developing relationships with the retailer through insights, category recommendations and shopper engagement. You will utilise a well-resourced collection of panel and retailer data. But, the analysis of this and insights generated will only be the building blocks of your success within the retailer. The real work will be in how you draw on other sources and trends to create a story of concrete category recommendations that the trading teams can engage with. Challenging the customer sensitively will be key to your success and so to achieve this, you will need to cultivate strong and honest relationships in the face of resistance and entrenched views of the category.

The Person

You must have had 3-4 years as a category manager on M&S. You will have exposure to a broad range of data-sets and will also have a good understating of the shopper and their priorities. Key to your CV, will be your track record of influencing and challenging customers, whilst cultivating a relationship. This is no place for blushing violets. You will be given plenty of autonomy and resource to achieve your goals, but you will set the agenda and you will make it happen. If you want to truly own your category relationship, then this is the business for you.
